Job Description :
The primary and daily role of the incumbent, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, is to apply specialized education techniques and methods as part of an intervention plan or program designed for students requiring special support.
What you'll conquer every day
- In collaboration with the students and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, participate in the development and drafting of the intervention plan;
- Select the measures to be taken to achieve the identified objectives, develop an action plan and implement these measures;
- Evaluate the achievement of the objectives and participate in the evaluation of the plan;
- Support the student in his learning and in certain activities;
- Develop and adapt the necessary tools for its interventions and use communication techniques adapted to the needs of students;
- Intervene with students with respect to their environment and provide them help;
- Use intervention techniques that can help restore calm and order;
- Accompany students in their behavior modification process;
- Support teachers to foster an environment conducive to learning;
- Note observations and interventions, keep records and write reports;
- Meet with students and relevant staff and counselors to educate, inform and provide them with relevant documentation and references;
- Know the Student Access Centre and, during busy periods (mid terms and final exams), help perform the associated administrative task with the coordination of exams for students requiring Special Needs Services;
- Support students in the exam room when necessary;
- Use the technological tools of information and communications made available to him in connection with the work to be done;
- Perform other related tasks when necessary.
Requirements :
- College Diploma in special education techniques or in any other relevant and appropriate discipline.
- Experience in Special Education is considered an asset.
- Must have a good knowledge of the various limitations (sensory, motor, neurological, organic, mental health and learning disorders).
- Have a good knowledge of educational strategies for college students with special needs.
- Functional knowledge of Office (Word, Excel, Outlook particularly).
- Knowing correction and speech synthesis software would be an asset.
- Master English and French both verbally and in writing.
- Possess skills for helping relationships and teamwork.
- Relational and communication skills, including a sense of inclusion and teamwork.
- Ability to plan and organize.
- Demonstrate independence and initiative.
Work Schedule : Monday to Friday 35 hours a week
Duration of contract : Permanent
Salary Scale : from $28.40 to $40.88 per hour
