About the Role
North Star Contracting is seeking an experienced Land Manager – Aggregates to lead land acquisition, pit and quarry development, and resource management for our growing civil construction and underground utility operations. This is a key strategic role focused on securing long-term aggregate supply through land acquisition, permitting, and pit development.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and acquire land or mineral rights for new aggregate pits and quarries across Alberta
- Negotiate land purchase agreements, leases, and royalty arrangements
- Set up and manage crushing operations and land preparations
- Lead full pit and quarry development, including capital planning, site setup, and equipment procurement
- Manage environmental assessments, reclamation plans, and regulatory permitting processes
- Represent the company at land use hearings, public consultations, and municipal meetings
- Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and regulatory bodies
- Utilize GIS systems to document boundaries, reserves, and development plans
- Develop budgets and timelines for capital projects related to land acquisition and pit development
- Provide strategic land-related advice to senior leadership to minimize risks and maximize value
- Ensure full compliance with Alberta land use, environmental, and mining regulations
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in land management, aggregate resource development, pit/quarry development, or surface rights acquisition
- Strong knowledge of Alberta regulatory environment (land use, environmental permitting, reclamation, and municipal approvals)
- Proven track record in land negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and securing permits
- Experience with GIS systems, mapping tools, and land/resource planning
- Post-secondary education in Land Management, Geography, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and willingness to travel
