Enoch Civil Construction is currently looking for a Site Supervisor to join our team in
Edmonton, Alberta.
The selected candidate will be assigned to one or more work sites. As a supervisor, you
will be reporting to the CCO and Chief Operations Officer.
The applicant will be required to have knowledge of the operations of all heavy and
small equipment as well as have training in site surveying and working knowledge
of equipment GPS systems.
A string knowledge of work place safety, demonstrable experience with site
documentation and worker organization and assignments.
Responsibilities
The site supervisor will be responsible for:
- Current and upcoming projects
- Crew and equipment needed
- Discuss possible subcontracts, materials, etc.
- Line locating/Hydro-vac
- Safety equipment/paperwork
- Safe work procedures, incident reporting and assisting with investigations
- Road use agreements/radio channels
- Worker supervisions including:
- Inform crew of travel time, work hours and crew trucks
- Prepare and hold safety meeting/job requirements:
- ERP
- Signage
- Hazard assessment
- Discuss with consultant, operators and labour crew:
- Scope of work and management of changes
- Daily operations and prime contractor requirements
- Daily documentation and costs reporting
- Work site tickets
- Submission/sign off of worker hours
- Verification of equipment inspections
- Incident reporting and investigations
- Any other duties as required
Typical Activities/Tasks
The daily tasks of the supervisor is organizing all work at assigned sites.
Punctuality, respect of co-workers, clients and suppliers, ensuring the cleanliness of
equipment and tools, and adequate handling of suggestions by employees all form a
positive culture that Willows Construction strives for in the workplace.
The following are also expected responsibilities of the worker:
- Conduct daily safety meetings and task hazard assessments.
- Follow provincial legislation, company policies and procedures and client’s requirements, including completion of necessary inspections and documentation.
- Ensure completion of daily inspections of equipment as well as proper handling and control of equipment is expected of all operators.
- Ensure workers are following proper procedures for tasks and ensuring the stopping of work if unsafe actions occur or identified. Providing suitable controls to mitigate hazards.
- Provide directions to workers and correct work if necessary.
- Report all first aid and incidents. Assist with incident investigations
- Direct end of day clean up, including cleaning of any equipment as needed.
- Any other duties as required.
Scope of the Position
This is a senior worker position with the applicant having construction skills to provide
direction and mentoring to the workers at a site. The supervisor must be able to provide
instructions, give effective feedback and demonstrate proper direction to the workers to
complete assigned task(s). Positive discipline and necessary completion of
documentation and reporting is a strong requirement of this position.
Knowledge of site survey, use of equipment with GPS and a strong background in
understanding ground disturbance rules are necessary for most sites. Good
communications skills are an asset.
Objectives
Ensure equipment readiness
- The supervisor will ensure the workers have the equipment and tools ready every shift including that daily inspections have been completed on the equipment and any deficiencies have been reported to the site supervisor.
- The equipment is cleaned regularly of any interior garbage as well as the exterior is cleared of mud and debris.
- Ensure that workers operate the equipment safely and efficiently. The supervisor does competency checks to ensure the workers are adequately trained.
- Ensure safety requirements (Provincial, Company, Client) are met
- Have necessary Person Protective Equipment clean and ready for daily use.
- The worker is responsible for supplying leather work gloves, high visibility vest and CSA approved work boots with minimum 6” ankle support.
- All safety equipment is in good condition and is used properly.
- Any concerns with the safe operation of equipment or the awareness of any unsafe work or acts are reported immediately.
- All first aid and any incidents are reported and necessary documentation is completed and presented to the Safety office
- Follow all Government Legislation, client policies and procedures, and company rules and safe work procedures.
- Ensure completion of task/projects done within timeline
- It is expected of the supervisor to ensure the completion of assigned tasks within the time period given by the client. If unable, ensure the operations is advised timely to provide alternative directions or assistance.
- Provide necessary documentation
- Documentation is required to show completion of inspections of all equipment, tools and vehicles.
- Hazard assessments and pre-job safety meetings are to be documented and signed off prior to commencing work.
- Time records are properly completed, signed off by supervisor and turned into office for payroll processing.
Key Relationships
- Workers/Leads: On a daily basis to ensure proper completion of tasks.
- Operations Manager/Chief Operations Officer: On a daily basis to receive site assignments and work requirements. For submission of worksite documents.
- HSE/HR Coordinator: On a weekly basis to assess work site safety Training Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 education
- Current safety tickets: H2S Alive
- Standard First Aid & CPR/C
- Ground Disturbance II – In class
- CSTS-09 & WHMIS 2015
- Completion of Alberta OHS Legislation Awareness course, Leadership for Safety Excellence, Hazard Management or other recognized advance safety courses an asset.
Other Key Skills or Knowledge
- Working knowledge of GPS systems
- Education in reading site plans and running calculations from those plans
- Selected applicant may be required to successfully pass a pre-employment, client requested, post-incident or random Drug and Alcohol Tests. Positive results from these tests may result in the applicant not obtaining a position or being removed from work sites.
- Experience
- Minimum 9000 hours (approximately 5 years) of competent operation on all equipment.
- Previous experience of site supervision in Earthworks
- Experience in Landfill construction preferred
Pay: $17.82-$43.73 per hour
