Join our YMCA facility team to provide cleaning, maintenance, and yardwork at our Blackstrap Day Camp located on Blackstrap Lake and at the Downtown YMCA. This is a Canada Summer Jobs Grant position, therefore available to Canadian Citizens or permanent residents under 30 years old only.
Role: YMCA Camp/Downtown Maintenance and Facility Assistant
The YMCA is looking for an energetic, dynamic, and dedicated individual who will join our staff team in the area of Maintenance and Facilities at both Blackstrap Camp and the Downtown YMCA. The Camp Maintenance & Facilities Assistant is responsible for ensuring YMCA camp facilities and grounds at Blackstrap Camp are clean, safe, and well-maintained for all campers and staff. They will also work part-time with the facilities & maintenance staff at the Downtown YMCA and other YMCA facilities around the city. They must be self-motivated in a fast paced, changing environment with the ability to take initiative and support the YMCA values, mission and vision.
The Role of the Maintenance and Facility Assistant is to:

Work approximately 20 hrs. per week at Blackstrap Camp, and 15 hrs. per week with the YMCA Facilities staff.

Support daily upkeep, groundskeeping, and assist with minor repairs & projects

Create a safe, welcoming, and functional environment for everyone on site

Facility Cleaning & Upkeep - cleaning bathrooms and common areas in facilities

Outdoor Grounds Work - mowing, trimming, weeding, clearing brush, and other general yard work

Safety & Maintenance - inspecting facilities and grounds for hazards, reporting issues and completing minor repairs

Projects and Improvements - assist with small improvement projects

Contracted services coordination - maintain communication with contracted services such as garbage & grey-water removal, & water delivery.

Seasonal duties - assist with camp clean up and end of season tasks
Qualifications:

Experience in general maintenance, landscaping, or custodial work preferred, but not required.

Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, bending, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Basic skills in using hand tools and small equipment (e.g., lawn mower, trimmer).

Strong attention to safety and ability to follow procedures and guidelines.

Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Commitment to YMCA values and creating safe, positive environments for children and staff.

Able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and willing to take Child Safeguarding training as required.

WHMIS Certification is an asset.

Reliable transportation, access to a vehicle, and comfortable driving on highways and gravel roads considered an asset.

Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and between 16-30 years old.
