Harrison Pensa is actively recruiting a permanent, full time Law Clerk to join our Commercial Litigation team. Our Commercial Litigation group represents financial institutions, businesses, lenders, and other stakeholders in a broad range of commercial disputes, enforcement proceedings, insolvency matters, and creditor remedies. We are seeking an experienced Law Clerk to support a dynamic and collaborative practice.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate and manage a high-volume commercial litigation practice, ensuring legal documents are prepared accurately and filed within prescribed deadlines, court timelines, and lawyer instructions.
- Draft and prepare a variety of litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, correspondence, settlement-related documentation, and other court materials.
- Assist lawyers with the preparation of motion records, application materials, affidavits, and supporting documentation for court proceedings.
- Liaise regularly with clients, opposing counsel, court offices, process servers, experts, and other professionals regarding ongoing matters.
- Monitor litigation files and court deadlines, maintaining accurate records and ensuring timely progression of matters.
- Prepare, organize, and manage documentary evidence, briefs, and electronic court filings.
- Draft and prepare legal and administrative correspondence, accounts, docket entries, and file management documentation.
- Coordinate service and filing of court documents and communicate with courts regarding filing requirements, scheduling, and status updates.
- Support lawyers with enforcement proceedings, creditor remedies, commercial disputes, and other litigation matters as required.
- Assist with claims administration and regulatory filings where applicable.
- Provide litigation support to lawyers and other members of the practice group and contribute to the efficient operation of the team.
- Other duties, as required by the department.
The successful candidate ideally has the following qualifications:
- Post-secondary Law Clerk Diploma, Paralegal or related discipline.
- 3-5 years’ experience as Legal Assistant, Law Clerk or Paralegal required.
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast paced environment, adjusts to changing priorities, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work as a team player and independently.
- Efficient self-starter and quick learner.
- Courteous, client focused and professional attitude.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, Kofax and Legal Industry Software.
We offer a salary commensurate with experience and a collegial environment.
The expected compensation range for this role is between $52,000 and $60,000.
