About the role
We are Intact, one of Canada’s leading Insurers working to shape the future of commercial insurance technology. We’re building a modern Broker Experience Ecosystem for Commercial Lines.
We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Developer who will be a key technical voice shaping the direction, development, and delivery of a large-scale, production-critical web application.
We give developers access to the latest hardware (Macbook Pros) and software (IntelliJ, Visual Studio, Windsurf etc). You’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality, performant, and accessible user experiences on our Broker platform at scale, while partnering with UX and Product leadership to define and execute initiatives spanning design systems, application performance, and frontend architecture.
You care deeply about UI quality and craftsmanship, holding a high bar for usability, performance, and visual polish, and bring strong opinions on what makes a great user experience.
This will be a hybrid role (2 days in office per week) with the primary location being in downtown Toronto.
Our Stack
Our Broker platform runs on a Java backend with an Angular (v21) frontend, built with TypeScript, Angular Material Design, and Tailwind CSS, secured via OAuth2. We invest heavily in engineering excellence, with a robust CI/CD pipeline and automated testing framework supporting everything we ship.
What you'll do here:
-
Architect, build, and evolve scalable, user-centric frontend systems and interfaces that power growth initiatives across the platform.
-
Define and champion frontend standards — driving consistency through reusable components, shared patterns, and a cohesive design system.
-
Own complex frontend projects end-to-end: from technical design and implementation through deployment, iteration, and long-term reliability.
-
Enable rapid experimentation and data-driven iteration through robust frontend frameworks and feature delivery infrastructure.
-
Partner cross-functionally with Product, UX, and Engineering to translate business and customer needs into high-quality user experiences.
-
Uphold and actively raise the bar on performance, accessibility, reliability, and security across all frontend work.
-
Contribute to a strong engineering culture in our Toronto office — through mentorship, code reviews, and leading by example.
-
AI DLC - Leverage best-in-class AI tools such as Devin and Cursor to enhance productivity.
What you bring to the table:
-
Deep expertise in Angular and TypeScript, including frontend architectural decision-making at scale.
-
Experience in writing unit tests and working with Jest and version control.
-
A track record of delivering large-scale, production-critical frontend systems - and the scars to prove it.
-
Experience driving cross-team or org-level initiatives such as design systems, platform modernization, or performance improvement programs.
-
Strong command of frontend architecture principles, performance tradeoffs, and scalability challenges.
-
Proven ability to integrate complex systems via REST APIs and reason clearly about data flow across the stack.
-
Exceptional debugging skills spanning browser tooling, performance profiling, and production environments.
-
Demonstrated ownership of codebase health, system reliability, and engineering standards over time.
-
The ability to operate independently, cut through ambiguity, and bring structure to open-ended problems.
-
Solid grasp of web performance optimization, accessibility (WCAG), and responsive design best practices.
-
Fluency in modern engineering practices: code reviews, CI/CD, and instrumentation for analytics and experimentation.
-
Strong communication skills with a track record of influencing technical decisions across teams and functions.
-
Exposure to other modern frameworks (React, Vue) is a plus.
-
No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.
