Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.
Position Overview:
A Senior Research Assistant (SRA) is required to assist on a SSHRC Explore-funded project. The project will employ critical content analysis to examine provincial curriculum documents: Social Studies, Physical Education and Health, and Science.
The study has four principal objectives:
1) To explore the extent to which the climate crisis is represented in the three curriculum documents;
2) To explore the ways in which the climate crisis is represented in the three curriculum documents;
3) The extent to which there is curriculum synergy between grade level curriculum documents to provide pathways for interdisciplinary approaches to teaching about the climate crisis;
4) The extent to which the three curriculum documents allow for localized understanding of and action on climate change.
The Senior Research Assistant will work with Primary Researcher on the project, which is also aligned with a parallel curriculum analysis project at the University of Manitoba.

Duties:
- The primary responsibility for the SRA is to independently conduct a critical content analysis of three Manitoba K-12 curriculum documents. Familiarity with environmental education, climate change education and the climate crisis will be considered an asset.
- The SRA will be supported in collecting, summarizing, and organizing relevant literature; participating in critical content analysis; and potentially co-authoring manuscripts.
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have completed a graduate degree in education or be enrolled in a graduate program or education. Applicants must have experience with Manitoba K-12 curriculum documents.
- Applicant should have good communication and organizational skills.
- Experience with academic research and publishing is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with content analysis will also be considered an asset for this position, but training will be provided.
- Most of this work will be done remotely, but some in-person work will be required. This can be scheduled in consultation between the SRA and PI.

The period of work will be from Sep 14, 2026 - Aug 27, 2027, and the estimated total hours of work will be 50-75 hours.
