Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented lawyer with experience in litigation and family law to join our growing team. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload, represent clients in court proceedings, and provide strategic legal advice across various litigation matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and conduct all stages of litigation in the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, including drafting pleadings, conducting questionings, drafting and arguing court applications, and preparing and conducting trials
- Manage a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorce, spousal and child support and property division
- Represent clients in court hearings, applications, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and trials
- Conduct legal research and draft legal documents including civil claims and statements of claim, applications, affidavits, briefs, opinions, divorce pleadings, separation agreements, pre/post-nuptial agreements, financial disclosure statements and various types of settlement agreements
- Provide strategic legal advice to clients regarding disputes and risk management
- Negotiate settlements and advocate on behalf of clients
- Collaborate with partners, associates, and support staff on all types of matters
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation and case law
- Maintain strong client relationships and deliver high-quality service
Qualifications
- Member in good standing with the Alberta Law Society
- 7-10 years of litigation experience
- Strong advocacy, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Excellent legal research and writing abilities
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and client relationship skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil and commercial litigation, builders’ liens, employment law, family law, estate litigation
- Courtroom advocacy experience
- Experience with mediation and alternative dispute resolution
- License to practice in Northwest Territories, or the willingness to obtain such license
