About Us
We are seeking dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate educators to join our Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Program team. Our program prepares learners to meet Nova Scotia’s provincial certification requirements through a rigorous curriculum combining theory, labs, simulations, and practicum placements.
Instructors play a critical role in developing competent, person-centered care professionals equipped to work across home care, long-term care, acute care, and community care environments.
Available Roles
Primary Instructor
The Primary Instructor is responsible for full program leadership, curriculum implementation, instructional design, learner evaluation, and coordination of theoretical, lab, simulation, and practicum components.
Secondary Instructor
The Secondary Instructor supports curriculum delivery, lab facilitation, learner mentoring, simulation assistance, assessment support, and practicum supervision under program leadership.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Deliver approved CCA curriculum in alignment with Nova Scotia standards
- Teach theory, lab, simulation, and/or practicum components
- Apply learner-centered, culturally competent, person-centered teaching philosophies
- Develop lectures, lesson plans, case studies, simulations, and instructional materials
- Design assignments, tests, rubrics, and learner assessments
- Facilitate group discussions, experiential learning, reflective practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Ensure compliance with required course hours, learning outcomes, and competency standards
- Conduct learner progress check-ins and provide performance feedback
- Prepare students for the provincial CCA Certification Exam
Practicum & Skills Oversight
- Coordinate and supervise lab and practicum placements
- Evaluate technical skill proficiency
- Ensure learner compliance with safety, infection control, and care standards
- Conduct skill demonstrations and competency evaluations
- Support learners in applying care plans, point-of-care assessments, documentation, and reporting
Compliance & Program Quality
- Maintain curriculum integrity and standardized assessments
- Ensure adherence to:
- Standards of Practice (SoP)
- Competency Framework (CF)
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Infection Prevention & Control
- Human Rights and EDIRA principles
- Participate in curriculum updates and continuous quality improvement
- Maintain accurate learner records and documentation
Required Qualifications
Primary Instructor
- Licensed/approved educator eligible to administer Nova Scotia CCA Program
- Current healthcare designation (RN, LPN)
- Minimum 3–5 years clinical experience in continuing care, long-term care, home care, or related healthcare sectors
- Adult education or teaching experience strongly preferred
- Experience in:
- Curriculum development
- Lab instruction
- Simulation facilitation
- Practicum coordination
- Learner assessment
- Strong understanding of:
- CCA Standards of Practice
- Competency Framework
- Nova Scotia healthcare systems
- DUTJ certification or ability to facilitate dementia curriculum preferred
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
Secondary Instructor
- Relevant healthcare credential (LPN, RN, or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience
- Teaching, mentoring, or preceptorship experience preferred
- Strong practical skills in personal care, mobility, safety, and communication
- Ability to support labs, simulations, and practicum learners
- Commitment to person-centered, culturally safe care
