Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled, compassionate, and detail-oriented Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) to join our diagnostic imaging team. In this role, you will perform high-quality diagnostic radiographic procedures while ensuring excellent patient care and strict adherence to radiation safety protocols.
In addition to general digital radiography, the ideal candidate will have experience or certification in Bone Mineral Density (BMD) testing. You will work closely with our administrative staff and radiologists to ensure smooth clinical operations, accurate documentation, and an efficient patient workflow.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnostic Imaging & Technical Execution
- Perform a high volume of general digital X-ray examinations following established clinical protocols and safety standards.
- Position patients accurately and adjust technical factors ($kVp$, $mAs$) to obtain optimal diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure (ALARA principle).
- Perform Bone Mineral Density (BMD) scans (DEXA) with high precision, including proper patient positioning, baseline measurements, and accurate data entry for fracture risk assessment.
- Evaluate images for technical quality, ensuring they meet the diagnostic standards required by reporting radiologists.
- Utilize PACS, RIS, and EMR systems efficiently to send images, archive data, and track patient files.
Patient Care & Safety
- Prepare and guide patients through their procedures, explaining the process clearly to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Assess patient history, verify requisitions, and screen for potential contraindications (e.g., pregnancy).
- Apply appropriate radiation protection measures, including patient shielding and collimation.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and safe examination environment between patients.
Quality Assurance & Operations
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) checks on X-ray and BMD equipment, documenting results meticulously.
- Recognize equipment malfunctions and promptly escalate technical issues to engineering or equipment maintenance protocols.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including managing patient workflow, verifying billing data, and ensuring compliance with provincial regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Radiation Technology program.
- Licensure/Certification: * Current registration in good standing with the relevant provincial regulatory body (e.g., CMRITO in Ontario) and/or CAMRT.
- Certification or specialized training in Bone Mineral Density (BMD) / Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is highly preferred.
- Experience: 1–2 years of clinical experience in a diagnostic clinic or hospital setting is preferred, but motivated new graduates are welcome to apply.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with modern digital radiography (DR) systems, PACS, and RIS platforms.
- Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to remain calm and empathetic under pressure; strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
