You'll teach across multiple styles and age groups, mentor the next generation of instructors, and have genuine creative input into new classes, formats, and the direction of the program. If you've been looking for a studio that treats you like the expert you are, this is it!
Location: Limelight Performing Arts in Victoria, BC
Schedule: Afternoons/Evenings and Saturdays
Compensation: $24–$60/hr, hourly based on experience and choreography/leadership responsibilities
About the Role
As Lead Dance Teacher, you'll teach a variety of styles across children's, teen, and/or adult classes, while helping build out what we offer. Bring your own choreography ideas to life for showcases, performances, and competitions, mentor assistant instructors as they grow into their own teaching style, and help set the tone for a studio culture that's positive, safe, and genuinely fun to be part of.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging dance lessons tailored to various age groups and skill levels
- Lead classes in different dance styles, ensuring proper technique and safety
- Foster a supportive, motivating environment that encourages participation and confidence
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to help them improve
- Choreograph routines for performances, recitals, showcases, and competitions
- Mentor assistant and junior instructors in lesson planning and classroom management
- Help shape the program — propose new classes, formats, or events
- Organize performances, recitals, or showcases to celebrate student achievements
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and class schedules
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized studio environment
- Incorporate creative activities that enhance the learning experience beyond technique alone
- Participate in any available ongoing professional development related to dance and youth education
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience working with children in educational or recreational settings
- Strong background teaching dance or related movement arts, across multiple styles
- Solid classroom management skills and leadership ability
- Comfortable teaching a range of ages and skill levels
- Experience working with children with diverse learning needs is a plus
- Patience, enthusiasm, and strong communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Background in early childhood education or related fields is desirable
- Ability to build creative lesson plans that engage students of varying ages and abilities
- Choreography experience for group performances a strong plus
- A reliable, positive, professional attitude
- Preferred: Dance teaching certifications
- Required/Willing to Obtain: first aid/CPR, criminal record check requirement
