Licensed Residential Electrician – Job Summary
Experienced and licensed electrician responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems in residential properties. Works independently to complete service calls, renovations, upgrades, and new installations while ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations. Provides professional customer service, communicates effectively with homeowners, and maintains a clean and organized work environment. Requires strong problem-solving skills, reliability, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and current WHMIS and Working at Heights certifications. A minimum of 5 years of residential electrical experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in homes and residential buildings.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems, faults, and system failures.
- Install and connect wiring, outlets, switches, light fixtures, panels, and circuit breakers.
- Perform electrical upgrades, renovations, and service calls.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
- Conduct inspections and testing of electrical systems to verify proper operation.
- Install and maintain smoke detectors, surge protection devices, and other residential electrical equipment.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners to explain work requirements, findings, and recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, materials used, and service reports.
- Operate electrical testing equipment and power tools safely and effectively.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Coordinate with other trades and team members when required.
- Follow WHMIS, Working at Heights, and all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Respond to emergency service calls and resolve electrical issues efficiently.
Requirements
- Possession of a valid Certificate of Qualification (309A Electrician Licence) issued by Skilled Trades Ontario.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and applicable regulations.
Experience
- Several years of hands-on experience in residential electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Experience with service upgrades, panel changes, renovations, new home construction, and residential service calls.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, circuits, and electrical equipment.
- Proficiency in using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Safety Requirements
- Current WHMIS training.
- Working at Heights certification (when required by the employer).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Ability to work in attics, basements, ladders, and varying weather conditions.
Other Requirements
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and reliable transportation.
- Own basic electrical hand tools.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Reliable, organized, and professional in appearance and conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of residential electrical experience.
- Experience with EV charger installations, generators and residential service upgrades.
- Possession of a valid Certificate of Qualification (309A Electrician Licence) issued by Skilled Trades Ontario.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) and applicable regulations.
Pay: $42.00-$46.00 per hour
