MORE ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
We are a forward-thinking, data-driven organization committed to transforming our operational efficiency to ultimately impact and improve student learning. We believe that seamless information flow is the foundation of corporate agility. To support our growth, we are recruiting a newly created, highly specialized hybrid position based at our Center for Education in Stony Plain, Alberta.
If you are a technical professional who excels at connecting unstructured document records with structured transactional data, this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead our digital transformation.
THE POSITION VISION
We have successfully built a data-rich environment across our division. Our next step is to make that data highly practical—moving toward an information-rich culture where data is used systematically to inform leadership decisions and give our schools real-time, proactive insights.
This position functions as a specialized Software Development and Automation role. You will be embedded right within our Instructional Services team, acting as a direct link to our Information Technology department. Rather than working in technical isolation, you will bring the full-stack software development expertise and the dedicated time required to turn innovative ideas into practical web and application realities.
This work is centered around people. You will collaborate with leaders across schools and departments at all levels to understand their challenges. Your goal is to utilize modern software engineering to build tools that simplify workflows, reduce human error, improve daily workloads, and enhance our professional practices so our staff can focus their energy on what matters most: our students.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Software Development, AI Tools & Practical Automation
-
Full-Stack App & Tool Development: Apply modern software development practices to design, prototype, and deploy custom web applications, user interfaces, and digital tools that solve specific operational challenges for school and department staff.
-
AI Orchestration & Workflow Automation: Design and deploy custom AI workflows, collaborative agents, and automated processes explicitly engineered to alleviate administrative burdens, reduce repetitive data entry, and enhance the daily work experience of our staff.
-
AI-Accelerated Development: Leverage modern, AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, LLM APIs) to write, review, and engineer clean code (Python, JavaScript, or similar frameworks) at high velocity.
-
System Integration & API Engineering: Architect and maintain secure webhooks, REST APIs, and middleware to safely connect modern software applications and generative AI tools with our enterprise systems.
2. Project Management, Process Optimization & Platform Synergy
-
Process Engineering: Leverage enterprise content management to its maximum capacity—optimizing workflows, advanced digital forms, data retention, and automated routing to make departmental processes seamless.
-
Cross-Platform Integration: Write and tune optimized SQL queries, bridging records management with other analytical pipelines to identify and resolve systemic operational bottlenecks.
-
Strategic Project Management & Change Leadership: Own the lifecycle of technical initiatives, from intake and prioritization to deployment and post-implementation review. Ensure all projects are mapped against the Division’s 3-year strategic plan and are sensitive to school-year "heat points" (e.g., assessment cycles, start-up), facilitating proactive communication and effective change management for staff at all organizational levels.
3. Predictive Analytics & Data Democratization
-
Leading & Predictive Indicators: Build and scale robust data models (e.g., Power BI, DOMO, DataStudio) to establish predictive indicators, providing school and department leaders with clear, actionable foresight to support student and operational success.
-
Advanced ETL Pipeline Engineering: Ingest, clean, and blend complex datasets from disparate relational databases and applications into dynamic reporting layers.
-
Empowering Leadership: Build intuitive, executive-ready enterprise dashboards and workflow tracking metrics that remove technical barriers, allowing leaders to confidently make data-informed decisions.
WHAT YOU BRING (Position Requirements)
Education & Experience
-
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.
-
5+ years of progressive professional experience in software development, web/app development, database programming, or enterprise solutions automation.

Strong SQL Foundations (Must-Have): Advanced comfort authoring, debugging, and optimizing relational database queries, views, and direct transactional connections.
-
Transferable BI & Workflow Concepts: Hands-on experience building ETL pipelines and dashboards in enterprise BI platforms (Domo, Power BI, or Tableau). Direct Domo or Laserfiche experience is a major asset, but we are prepared to train a software developer with strong transferable structural skills.
Human & Leadership Competencies
-
High-Level People Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to listen empathetically to the practical operational pain points of staff, navigate professional school dynamics, and establish deep collaborative trust across all organizational tiers.
-
Innovative Problem Solver: A natural builder who proactively identifies opportunities to make our software and practices better and possesses the technical capability to engineer the solution.
WHY WORK WITH US?
-
A Culture of Innovation: Join a team that values creative thinking and continuous improvement. You will have the unique opportunity to help shape an evolving software, data, and automation model that directly impacts the educational experience.
-
Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a professional, hybrid work schedule that balances remote flexibility with purposeful, in-person collaboration at our Center for Education in Stony Plain.
-
Continuous Training: We support your professional growth with dedicated funding and paid study time to earn certifications in advanced AI, software development paths, Domo, Laserfiche, or SQL Server.
-
Competitive Compensation: We offer a structured salary grid, matching pension/RRSP frameworks, comprehensive health benefits, and a generous vacation allotment to support your well-being.
