We Wai Kai Forestry is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Operations Planner to join our team in Campbell River, BC.
Reporting to the Forestry Operations Manager, the Operations Planner will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of our forestry operations, including managing the engineering and tenure consulting contractor, and the logging and road construction contractors. This position requires a hands-on individual with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of forestry operations, and the ability to effectively manage multiple contractors and projects.
Key Responsibilities and duties
Operational Planning
- Manage all planning activities required to achieve annual harvest targets across multiple forest tenures
- Develop and implement five-year operational plans
- Coordinate bridge and access management
- Prepare and submit cutting permits and road permits
- Develop pro formas and cost estimates
- Monitor and manage stumpage
- Monitor cut control and ensure regulatory compliance
- Prepare operational budgets, forecasts and planning schedules.
Operations Management
- Manage Supervision of road building, harvesting and dryland sort contractors
- Monitor contractor performance, quality and compliance with contractual obligations
- Conduct safety inspections of active operations.
- Lead pre-work meetings and site orientations
- Negotiate contractor rates and service agreements
- Monitor project costs and prepare financial reports
- Work collaboratively with engineering and tenure consultants to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Natural Resources Management.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in coastal timber development, engineering and planning.
- Current accreditation as an Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia.
- Strong knowledge of forestry practices, regulations, and environmental stewardship.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and forestry management software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
