We are looking for a detail-oriented Corporate Accountant to join a real estate and property organization in Toronto, Ontario on a Long-term Contract basis. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate corporate accounting records, supporting regular reporting cycles, and ensuring timely completion of financial processes. The successful candidate will contribute to month-end activities, tax filings, reconciliations, and corporate cost allocations while working closely with internal stakeholders across the business.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly corporate expense schedules and post related journal entries to maintain accurate financial records.
- Record and reconcile bi-weekly payroll activity, ensuring payroll-related accounts are complete and balanced.
- Allocate corporate charges to operating properties and verify the accuracy of intercompany or shared-cost recoveries.
- Complete monthly indirect tax reporting, submit required remittances, and process sales tax and federal tax payments on schedule.
- Assist with monthly general and administrative reporting, including forecast updates, budget support, account analysis, and explanations of variances.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations, arrange wire payments, and maintain banking documentation for designated corporate entities.
- Administer recurring service fee processing and support the preparation of quarterly fee income allocation reporting.
- Prepare monthly transaction cost summaries and gather supporting documentation for audit-related requests.
- Provide additional accounting support and take on ad hoc assignments requested by senior leadership to help meet departmental objectives.
- 1-2 years of experience working in a corporate accounting or staff accountant role, preferably within real estate, property management, or a related industry.
- Previous experience using Yardi preferred.
- Practical knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities.
- Proven ability to prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and investigate discrepancies with a high degree of accuracy.
- Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations and supporting recurring financial reporting requirements.
- Familiarity with tax remittances and routine corporate accounting processes in a multi-entity environment is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to review account activity, identify variances, and summarize findings clearly.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and spreadsheet software, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced settin.
