Job Summary:
The Lead Hand is responsible for following the direction of the site. In Charge in a safe, efficient and productive manner. Ensuring the quality of the job build meets or exceeds Berto’s standards, while being an advocate in building/maintaining an inclusive/respectful culture in accordance with the company values.
Major Duties:
- Assisting In Charge in supervising the crew members and correcting all unsafe or inefficient practices
- Anticipates the needs of the In Charge and takes the lead when required
- Represents Berto is a professional and respectful manner when speaking with property owners and tenants while ensuring the safety of the public
- Ensuring Health and Safety practices are followed according to WorkSafe BC and Berto’s Health and Safety Manual
- Reviews and ensures the crew has loaded all required material, equipment and tools for the task to be completed
- Ensures tools, equipment and trucks are fueled and ready for use before leaving the warehouse
- Able to read and interpret blueprints, as-builts and construction drawings in determining job build assignments and sequence in which tasks need to be completed
- Read and understands all utility locates
- Uses M-Scope or Locator to locate underground utilities on each job site
- Assigns general work requirements into a prioritized work plan for the crew
- Ensures crew compliance with company, client and project policies and procedures
- Sets up confined space entry as per WorkSafe BC standards
- Install services boxes, service vaults, manholes, conduits and pilasters
- Practices safe trenching and digging methods
Requirements:
- 1+ years of civil construction/labourer experience
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
- Advanced understanding of construction principles and procedures, an asset:
- Ability to identify a utility service
- Ability to distinguish utility markings
- Experience using small power tools an asset
- Cut-off saw
- Plate tamper
- Drill
- Jumping jack
- Generator
- Air Compressor
- Pneumatic Tool
- Shovels, rakes, etc.
- Access to reliable transportation

Pay: $33.00-$40.00 per hour
