As a Dance Teacher, you'll typically work with three age groups across the day: Ages 6–9, Ages 10–12, Ages 12-14. These groups rotate between singing, dancing, and drama classes in small ensemble sizes. As the dance teacher, you’ll work from your own room, receiving each group for their dedicated dance session.
Each class should blend skill-building with creativity—ranging from basic balance, strength, and flexibility to complex choreography, 2+ different dance styles, student led choreography, spatial awareness and preparation for musical theatre productions.
Lessons are planned in advance and aligned with term themes or performance goals, with plenty of room for your own creativity and professional style.
You'll be part of a supportive teaching team, all working together to create a safe, structured, and joyful performing arts experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach dance to students aged 6–16 in weekly classes (work available Saturdays in Kanata and Wednesdays in Barrhaven).
- Plan and deliver creative, age-appropriate lessons in dance skills
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages self-expression and growth
- Collaborate with singing and drama teachers to support ensemble and performance goals
- Assist in choreographing end-of-term performances and showcases
Qualifications
- Experience teaching or directing children and youth in dance and/or musical theatre
- Background in dance performance (education or professional)
- Energetic, reliable, and passionate about working with young people
- Ability to manage and inspire students of varying ages and experience levels
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check (or willingness to obtain one)
