The Opportunity
We're looking for an Assistant Manager to join the team at DayNNite Cannabis who is ready for a real challenge. This role exists because we're building our next generation of leadership — the Store Manager seat is the destination and it's closer than you think.
But you'll earn it first.
This is a full-time role with a defined 6-month track. You'll come in as an Assistant Manager, prove yourself in that role, and transition into Store Manager when you're ready. We'll be developing and evaluating you every step of the way — working directly alongside our Assistant Store Manager and store ownership.
If you're looking for a title handed to you, this isn't it. If you're looking for a real opportunity to prove yourself and step into a leadership role you've earned, keep reading.
What the Job Actually Looks Like
You'll be on the floor, not in the back. Your day is a mix of keeping operations running smoothly, supporting your team, and delivering the kind of customer experience that keeps people coming back.
This is cannabis retail — the customers who walk through our door come in with real questions and real needs. Your ability to create a knowledgeable, welcoming experience is what sets DayNNite apart.
Customer service isn't a box we check here — it's the foundation of how we operate. You'll set the standard for your team by how you treat every single person who walks through the door, on the easy days and the hard ones.
Some days are smooth. Some days three things go wrong before noon. You're the person who handles both the same way — with composure, a solutions mindset, and a genuine commitment to making every interaction a good one.
You'll learn how we operate from the ground up — working closely with ownership means you'll understand not just the what but the why behind how this store runs. We have a way of doing things that works, and we're looking for someone who appreciates that and builds on it.
You Might Be a Fit If:
- You're motivated by the idea of proving yourself — the 6-month track feels like a challenge you want, not a hurdle you resent
- You lead by example and bring people along with you — your team performs better because of how you show up, not because you told them to
- You understand that culture isn't something you change, it's something you contribute to — you add to the energy of a team rather than disrupt it
- You genuinely enjoy people — not just tolerate them. You leave most customer interactions feeling good, not drained
- You've been the person your coworkers come to when something goes sideways — not because of your title, but because that's just who you are
- You take your schedule seriously. Your team counts on you being there and you don't take that lightly
- You're comfortable having hard conversations — with customers, with coworkers — and you handle them without making it bigger than it needs to be
- You're hungry to grow into a leadership role and open to learning the right way to do it
- Cannabis genuinely interests you — you don't need to be an expert but you're curious, you enjoy learning the products, and you can talk about them naturally with customers
You're Probably Not a Fit If:
- You're expecting the Store Manager title on day one or feel a 6-month track isn't worth your time
- You manage from a distance — you're more comfortable giving direction than rolling up your sleeves alongside your team
- You've ever been described as hard to work with or someone who rubs people the wrong way
- Customer interactions drain you more than they energize you
- You need a lot of external structure to stay motivated
- You come in with a long list of changes before you've learned why things are the way they are
- Unpredictable days stress you out rather than energize you
What We're Looking For
- Experience in retail, hospitality, food service, or customer-facing environments
- Some experience in a lead or supervisory capacity — formal title not required
- Must be 19 or older (Ontario cannabis retail requirement)
- Able to work a full-time schedule including evenings and weekends
- Valid CannSell certification or ability to obtain one prior to start
What We Offer
- $21/hr base pay + tips averaging $5/hr — estimated $26/hr total
- Full-time hours with a stable, consistent schedule
- Direct access to ownership and senior leadership throughout your development
- A defined 6-month path to Store Manager with clear milestones — not a vague promise
- Compensation increase tied to the Store Manager transition
- Employee cannabis discount
