Job Summary
The Welder position is responsible for welding and B-Pressure welding of fittings (including valves), and piping. This individual will assist other welders, as well as, be able to work on projects with little supervision. They will operate appropriate equipment according to customer or employer specifications by putting together mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.
Position Responsibilities
- Take direction and fulfill responsibilities from the Welding Lead and Manufacturing Manager
- Operate the welding equipment in a safe manner
- Produce strong penetrated welds that are smooth, non-porous, and consistent
- Follow procedures and uses appropriate jigs and fixtures for the welding process
- Ensure that only calibrated tools and equipment are used
- Maintain/produce a level of output that will minimize production delays
- Maintain an orderly work area
- Communicate effectively with other workers in the manufacturing department
- Assist other individuals in area when needed.
- Evaluate and maintain all records associated with in process orders to maintain traceability of materials as required
- Initiate Nonconformance reports where product or services do not meet requirements
- Assist reporting personnel in QHSE processes and completing QHSE records
- Demonstrate and emphasize safety conscience attitude
Experience
- Ability to weld vertical, flat, and overhead welds with a good penetration and a quality appearance as well as carbon and stainless steel
- Skill to operate propane, natural gas and acetylene torches
- Ability to operate conventional machining equipment mills, lathes, grinders
- Capability to lift 70 pounds.
- Physical ability to work and weld in awkward positions such as kneeling, lying down, and overhead.
- Demonstrated understanding of QHSE Procedures that relate to the Manufacturing functions
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work within complex, fast-moving work environment under minimal supervision.
- Ability to work as a positive contributing member within team environment.
- Willingness to take hands on approach in developing systems and procedures.
- Must be able to effectively read, write, and speak English.
- Functional understanding of imperial and metric systems.
- Familiar with applicable design code requirements
- Experience with reading tape measures, angle finders, blueprint drawings and cut lists
- Understanding of fractions and angles
- Problem solving and organizational skills.
- Journeyman Welder certificate or currently enrolled in the Welder Trades program required.
- STT equipment experience considered an asset
- Machining experience required
