About Pulsar Hydraulics
Pulsar Hydraulics Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company specializing in hydraulic hose, fittings, quick couplings, and adapters. We maintain large inventories to support distributors and hose assembly specialists across industries including agriculture, oil & gas, manufacturing, and heavy equipment.
Pulsar operates an internal testing laboratory to ensure product quality, functionality, and compliance with industry standards, as well as to evaluate new and future product offerings.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician/QA team member plays a dual role supporting operational quality systems and laboratory testing activities. This position is critical in maintaining and enhancing our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, supporting risk‑based thinking, leading non‑conformance investigations, and ensuring reliable testing and calibration practices within the internal lab.
This role works collaboratively with the QA Manager, Operations Managers, and QA team members to drive operational excellence, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement across all branches.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Technician
- Ensure the timely and orderly flow of product samples through the lab.
- Perform analysis and testing of hydraulic & industrial products following documented procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and coordinate repairs for laboratory test equipment.
- Maintain accurate testing records and provide standardized reports to internal stakeholders.
- Interpret and apply industry standards and specifications (e.g., SAE, ISO, ASTM, ANSI).
- Perform general lab housekeeping and maintenance.
- Follow all lab safety procedures, SOPs, and corporate health & safety policies.
- Lift up to 50 lbs when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Quality Assurance
- Involvement in ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, including audits, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Help with non-conformance reporting (NCR), addressing internal and external manufacturing errors (MFGE), ensuring timely containment, disposition, and communication across branches. This process will include the following steps:
- Problem definition
- Containment
- Investigation
- Root cause analysis
- Corrective and preventive actions
- Auditing of corrective actions for effectiveness and sustainability.
- Perform PFMEA (Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis) and operational risk assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and ability to learn ERP systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and respectful workplace values.
Preferred / Assets
- Post‑secondary education (degree or diploma).
- Experience in a laboratory or industrial manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, internal auditing, and risk‑based thinking.
- Experience with NCR systems, and audit protocols.
- Familiarity with PFMEA, 8D, root cause analysis, Kaizen, and Lean tools.
- Experience calibrating measurement equipment (calipers, torque wrenches, gauges).
- Knowledge of hydraulic and industrial hoses, fittings, adapters, or industrial hose products.
