Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton.
The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, College of Health Sciences, University of Alberta, in partnership with Alberta Precision Laboratories, North Sector and the Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta, is inviting applications for a full-time Academic Hematopathologist at the Assistant Professor level, with expertise in hematopathology, lymphoma pathology and cellular therapy.

The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (https://www.ualberta.ca/en/laboratory-medicine-and-pathology/index.html), within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is a high-impact research and education focused Department, currently consisting of 40 Academic Faculty and 185 Clinical Faculty. The Department has five fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada residency programs, numerous fellowship programs, thesis-based MSc and PhD degrees, as well as three course-based graduate programs. The department has world-class research in a variety of fundamental and translational research topics, including transplantation, environmental toxicology, pathogenesis of infectious diseases, molecular mechanisms of cancer (including diagnostics and therapeutic applications), cryobiology and tissue preservation, and pandemic preparedness. The department is a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment with linkages to a wide array of partners, departments/faculties, institutions, and institutes.
The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is one of the world’s top academic health science centres. With 21 departments, multiple research institutes and centres, and a focus on excellence in education, research, and clinical care, the faculty trains outstanding medical and dental professionals and drives global health innovation in collaboration with partners across sectors.
Key accountabilities would include, but not be limited to: clinical service in hematopathology and lymphoma pathology; leadership/participation in clinical training activities for the hematopathology residency subspecialty; educational scholarship and student supervision or teaching in lymphoma/molecular biology research; establishing a high-impact translational research program; and providing medical oversight and expansion of the GMP-certified APL cellular therapy lab in Edmonton.
The successful candidate would be expected to further the strategic aims of the department and institution in regards to advancing translational research in precision medicine/cellular therapy and would contribute to educational programs within the department. They would also participate in educational events such as DRIvE Days (annual department research and education symposium) and rounds.
The successful candidate would be a physician (MD) certified in hematopathology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC – Hematopathology) and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The ideal candidate would have advanced training (fellowship) in an area relevant to lymphoproliferative disorders, and experience with clinical trials and/or health research methods.
A doctoral degree (PhD) in a related field would be an asset.
