Muskoka Lakes Preschool is a licensed, non-profit childcare centre that has proudly served the Muskoka Lakes community since 1987. We operate Monday to Friday, 7:30am–5:30pm, and provide high-quality programming for children 18 months to 12 years of age.
We are located in Glen Orchard/Port Carling, offering a supportive, community-based environment focused on child development, safety, and well-being.
Position Summary
The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate programs that support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative growth of all children. The RECE ensures a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment while maintaining compliance with licensing and centre policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and implement written program plans, reviewed by the Director.
- Respond sensitively to the needs of individual children and families, respecting diversity in culture, religion, developmental level, ability, and family structure.
- Read and update room communication books daily.
- Plan and implement daily programming that:
- Supports cognitive, fine motor, gross motor, creative, sensory, science, social, and emotional development
- Reflects children’s ages, interests, and developmental levels
- Incorporates emergent curriculum
- Includes individual, small group, large group, indoor, outdoor, and field trip experiences
- Complete all required documentation including attendance, cleaning records, playground checks, medication administration, and daily reports.
- Accurately document and report accidents, incidents, and serious occurrences in a timely manner.
- Observe and assess children’s development and behavior; complete developmental profiles and recommend outside referrals when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with parents and school staff regarding children’s progress, health, and well-being.
- Regularly evaluate and adapt programming to meet individual and group needs and licensing requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Act as lead staff when working with Early Childhood Assistants, supply staff, and volunteers.
- Support and supervise assistants, supply staff, and placement students.
- Assist senior staff in evaluating placement students.
- Maintain constant supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of:
- Up to 10 toddlers
- Up to 16 preschoolers
Work Conditions & Physical Capabilities
- Ability to walk up to three flights of stairs
- Lift and/or move 10–30 lbs
- Comfortable participating in swimming/water activities
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and floor work
- Daily work in both indoor and outdoor environments
Education & Professional Knowledge
- Early Childhood Education diploma or provincially recognized equivalent (SSW or OCT)
- Knowledge of the CCEYA, How Does Learning Happen?, and the ELECT document
- Safe Food Handlers Certification (asset)
Employment Requirements
- RECE in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (annual proof required)
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Standard First Aid & Level C CPR
- Health assessment, TB test, and up-to-date immunizations
- Annual review and sign-off of all centre policies
- Working knowledge of How Does Learning Happen? and ELECT

Wage: $23.00–$26.00 per hour (based on experience)
