Job Overview
Pacific Earthworks is looking for an experienced Skid Steer Operator to join our excavation team. This position supports large-scale bulk excavation, slab preparation, and civil construction projects throughout the Lower Mainland.
The successful candidate will primarily operate skid steer equipment while also supporting general excavation activities and skilled labor tasks as required. The ideal candidate has experience working around heavy equipment, understands active excavation environments, and takes pride in safe and efficient work.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate skid steer loaders safely and efficiently on excavation and construction sites.
- Perform grading, material distribution, backfilling, and slab preparation activities.
- Assist with site preparation, cleanup, and general excavation support.
- Load and distribute materials using skid steer attachments.
- Support excavation crews and equipment operators as required.
- Perform equipment inspections, greasing, fueling, and basic daily maintenance.
- Identify and report equipment issues or maintenance requirements.
- Operate attachments and complete various site tasks as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow company safety procedures and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Complete additional labour tasks when equipment operation is not required.
- Work overtime and occasional weekends when required to meet project schedules.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating skid steers in construction, excavation, or civil environments.
- Experience operating skid steers around active excavation sites and heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform fine grading, material placement, and site preparation.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and hazard awareness.
- Physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
The following are considered assets:
- Class 5 BC Driver's Licence.
- Experience operating other compact equipment (mini excavator, loader, roller, telehandler).
- Occupational First Aid Level 1.
- WHMIS.
- Fall Protection.
