NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
Reporting to the Facilities & Infrastructure Department this position will be required to perform tasks involving physical labour and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools while working independently and as part of a team. While following safety regulations and promoting safe work habits, the Indigenous Housing Intern is a vital member of the team who will support the operations of the Facilities & Infrastructure Department and serve the community of Wahnapitae First Nation.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- General landscaping including lawn maintenance
- Prepares firewood by splitting and piling by operating wood splitters, and delivers wood to community members and stockpiles woodsheds
- Preparing job sites with appropriate safeguards, tools, and materials
- Loading/delivering materials
- Cleaning up worksites ensuring tools and materials are secure, and there is no debris or unsafe conditions left at the site
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Utilize pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, compact and level earth to grade specifications, using appropriate tools
- Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications
- Perform demolition work and salvage useful materials
QUALIFICATIONS
- G Class Drivers License preferred
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Chain Saw operator certificate is considered a strong asset
- Time management skills
- Proficient in using Microsoft Outlook
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed on project and job sites, in all seasonal weather conditions
