Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Edmonton manufacturing site by providing accurate cost accounting, financial analysis, and operational insights. Reporting directly to the Site Controller, this position is accountable for manufacturing cost control, inventory integrity, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, analyze, and report manufacturing costs, variances, and production efficiencies
- Apply strong problem‑solving skills to investigate cost variances, data inconsistencies, and system discrepancies to ensure accurate financial information
- Validate production jobs, manufacturing entries, and system transactions for accuracy and completeness
- Measure, analyze, and report production performance and KPIs to Finance and Operations, highlighting risks, trends, and improvement opportunities
- Review, maintain, and create Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate costing and system alignment
- Verify supplier invoices for accuracy and compliance and support timely processing for payment
- Plan, coordinate, and support annual and cyclical physical inventory counts to analyze obsolete and slow-moving inventory reserves
- Track capital projects in progress, monitor spending, and report variances versus approved budgets
- Support the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes by identifying data gaps, root causes, and corrective actions

Qualifications
- Actively hold or pursuing a professional accounting designation (CPA preferred)
- Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing accounting or comparable industry experience
- Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory management, and manufacturing processes
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical capability
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and experience working with ERP systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally
- Advanced problem‑solving and analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to evaluate complex financial issues, resolve non‑routine accounting matters, and provide sound recommendations
