Canterbury Hills Camp is a vibrant overnight and day camp located in the beautiful Dundas Valley. Each week, we welcome approximately 200 campers aged 6–16 and are supported by a dedicated team of 50 staff. Our commercial kitchen provides three nutritious, home-style meals daily, prepared by our Kitchen Team of seven, led by our experienced Kitchen Manager. Kitchen and Facilities Staff
- Provide healthy and child-friendly meals and snacks that adequately match the appetites and needs of all campers and staff
- Model and uphold a consistently high standard of professionalism, teamwork and hospitality for all kitchen staff, camp leaders and campers;
- Maintain a clean kitchen and camp spaces that adhere to the standards of Public Health and Canterbury Hills requirements.
Our camp kitchen operates Monday through Friday. Kitchen and facilities staff can expect a schedule with 34-36 hours per week, with a variety of the following shifts:
- Opening: Breakfast/lunch prep (~6:30am-2:30pm)
- Lunch prep (~10:00am - 4:30pm)
- Closing: Lunch/dinner prep/clean (~ 10:30am - 7:00pm)
- Housekeeping shift (exact hours TBC)
Duties
- Assist Kitchen Manager and Kitchen Leads with all kitchen operations, including prep-work, cooking, baking, serving and dishwashing;
- One housekeeping shift per week (minimum), including cleaning cabin and dining hall bathrooms, mopping and changing garbages;
- Maintaining a clean kitchen and work area;
- Careful adherence to the our Nut and Food Allergy Policy in all kitchen management and services;
- Some heavy lifting - 25 to 45 lbs.;
- Other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.
Requirements:
- Readiness to work hard and contribute meaningfully to a community-focused environment, and participate in greater camp staff activities;
- Able to work in a fast-paced camp kitchen environment;
- Being a positive and friendly role model to children;
- Experience in food preparation and commercial cleaning, or willingness to learn;
- Police record check with vulnerable sector screening
- Food Handlers Certificate (considered an asset, but not required)
- Available from June 22 to August 29, 2026
- Providing own transportation to and from Canterbury Hills Camp in Dundas Valley (509 Lions Club Rd); Please note that while we are only 850m from the closest bus stop, we are located down a steep, winding road with no pedestrian sidewalks. Candidates should keep this in mind while considering transportation options.
