Our client is a leading, employee-owned firm delivering integrated engineering, architecture, and planning solutions. With a global project footprint and multiple regional offices, they are currently seeking a motivated Electronics Engineer for their Sudbury location

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with RF and Embedded Engineers to deliver robust, well-rounded solutions. This role will be responsible for the development and maintenance of hardware and firmware designs for communications and environmental monitoring products used in the mining industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Design, develop, and validate electronic hardware for products used in the mining industry.
· Generate schematics, select components, and oversee PCB layout with intrinsic safety standards in mind.
· Collaborate with RF and Mechanical engineers to ensure holistic product design.
· Ensure designs comply with IEC 60079-0 (General Requirements) and IEC 60079-11 (Intrinsic Safety) standards.
· Work closely with notified bodies, certification agencies, and test labs to obtain required approvals.
· Conduct design reviews, hazard analysis, and documentation in support of certification submissions.
· Plan and perform verification/validation testing of hardware prototypes.
· Define test procedures to demonstrate intrinsic safety compliance.
· Troubleshoot and resolve design issues related to intrinsic safety or regulatory requirements.
· Support manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure intrinsically safe design is maintained through production.
· Provide technical guidance on component selection, derating, and safety-critical design considerations.
· Develop firmware to ensure safe system-level integration.
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
· 3+ years of experience in hardware development (preferably in industrial, oil & gas, mining, or related safety-critical sectors).
· Strong knowledge of analog/digital circuit design, component selection, and PCB layout for safety-critical applications.
· Familiarity with certification processes (ATEX, IECEx, UL, CSA, or equivalent).
· Hands-on experience with electrical testing, debugging, and validation.
· Excellent documentation and communication skills.
· Ability to work effectively in cross-disciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
