Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious CWB Certified Welder/Fitter to join our steel fabrication team at JAG Industries. You will be responsible for fitting, fabricating, and welding structural steel components in accordance with engineered drawings, shop specifications, and applicable industry standards. This role requires experience working in a fabrication shop and supporting field erection activities when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural steel drawings, blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols.
- Fit, align, and assemble structural steel components, including beams, columns, trusses, stairs, platforms, handrails, and miscellaneous metals.
- Perform MIG (GMAW), FCAW, SMAW (Stick) or TIG welding as required.
- Perform welding operations in accordance with CWB welding procedures and company quality standards.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, ironworkers, drills, grinders, beveling machines, and overhead cranes.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications before and during fabrication.
- Conduct quality inspections of completed work to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with material handling, loading, unloading, and organization of steel products.
- Support field erection crews as required, including site welding and steel modifications.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, Alberta OH&S regulations, and customer site-specific requirements.
- Identify and report quality, safety, or production concerns to supervisors.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, shop foremen, welders, fitters, and erection crews.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid CWB Welding Certification (current and in good standing).
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in structural steel fabrication and fitting.
- Proven ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and welding symbols.
- Experience fitting and welding structural steel assemblies.
- Strong understanding of fabrication practices, weld quality, and dimensional tolerances.
- Ability to operate common fabrication shop equipment safely and efficiently.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with reliable transportation.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work overtime and occasional weekends as project demands require.
- Must have CSA approved PPE, inclusive of steel toed boots.
Preferred
- Journeyman Welder Certification or Registered Apprentice.
- Experience with structural steel erection and field welding.
- CSTS 2020, Fall Protection, AWP, and/or First Aid certifications.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, or energy-sector projects.

Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
