JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Shift Supervisor is creating a customer experience, maintaining Specialty Coffee Standards, and providing support to the Manager in executing operational standards . The shift supervisor will act as the quarterback for the staff that they work with during a shift. They coordinate work flow and assign tasks as requested by the Café Site Manager. They need to be able to provide feedback and guidance to employees, report regularly to the Café Site Manager, be willing to work shifts of up to eight hours or more and lead by example in every task within the business. They are responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Equator principles and coaching staff in The Equator Way of how we operate on the café floor.

- Days are off scheduled for Friday & Saturday.
This role requires working availability on Sunday & Monday, to cover the Cafe Manager day's off.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and standards of Equator. Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the cafe operating to standard and to set a positive example for the shift team.

To keep the cafe: stocked with goods for sale, clean, organized and fully operational.

Assists with new staff training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed.

Participates in all tasks as a vital member of the staff on the floor.

Creates a positive learning environment by providing clear, specific, timely and respectful coaching and feedback to staff on shift to ensure operational excellence and to improve staff performance.

Delivers legendary customer service to all customers by acting with a customer comes first attitude and connecting with the customer. Discovers and responds to customer needs.

Develops positive relationships with the shift team by understanding and addressing individual motivation, needs and concerns.

Organizes staff to complete shift goals and tasks assigned to them.

Follows Equator operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all staff during each shift.

Follow up with baristas during the shift to ensure the delivery of legendary customer service for all customers.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.

Provides quality beverages, whole bean, and food products consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards. Follows health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products.

As a supervisor, you are the person who receives and deals with customer feedback and complaints during a shift and when necessary to bring these to the Cafe Site Manager.

Holds responsibility for quality control and adjusts as necessary during shifts to produce products within specifications. Rejects product outside of specifications.

Communicates with other Shift Supervisors and the Café Site Manager regularly.

Ensures a clean and safe work area.

Assists the Café Site Manager as necessary, including stocking shelves or counting inventory, placing orders.

Dresses the Part! As a supervisor, you provide an example for how you want your employees to present themselves when they’re on the job.

The Supervisor contacts the Operations Manager for Sick calls on days the Cafe Manager is not working.

All roles, including the Supervisor is required to maintain the cleanliness of the Cafe, which includes and is not limited to, cleaning tables, seating areas, equipment, floors, dishes, counters and bathrooms.

Quality Control
The cafe supervisor is expected to:

To maintain the specialty coffee standards, for themselves, and those around them.

Act as a mentor/training buddy to team members to improve their coffee making skills.

Coach, motivate, and communicate the importance of following the Specialty Coffee Standards

Ensure speed of service
Ensure operational flow, that the processes are being followed for customers to receive their order. (for example, assigning table numbers for orders that are dine-in, cashiers taking down names for orders to go, and correcting team mates who deviate from the operational standards).

2 year of Barista experience in Specialty Coffee

Has strong knowledge and skills of Specialty Coffee, and is able to do latte art (hearts, tulips, rosettas).

Time Expectations and Compensation

Typically Supervisors will work 30-35 hours per week during regular business hours with occasional other involvement for scheduled events and meetings.
- Shift times and length vary, but you should plan to work for at least eight hours, with overtime when necessary. When night, holiday or weekend hours are needed, you will need to be available to work during those times when requested.
