mistral Site Services (MSS) is rapidly growing to service the numerous projects under development from within the mistral Group with projects ranging from site servicing, deep excavation, excavation, and backfill to landscaping all done within MSS.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Heavy Civil Manager, the Heavy Civil Labourer is responsible for supporting the efficient and safe operation of Mistral Site Services’ worksites by performing a variety of physical and manual tasks. The Labourer will handle materials, assist skilled tradespeople, operate basic tools and equipment, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Material Handling and Equipment Operation
- Load, unload, and move materials, supplies, and equipment as required.
- Operate basic hand tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with setting up and dismantling work areas, scaffolding, and temporary structures.
- Conduct routine checks on tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
2. Site Maintenance
- Perform general site cleanup, including sweeping, removing debris, and organizing tools and materials.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain a tidy and hazard-free worksite to support operational efficiency.
3. General Site Support
- Provide assistance to skilled tradespeople by supplying materials, tools, and other support as needed.
- Follow detailed instructions to complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Assist with the preparation and execution of daily work plans.
4. Other
- Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Mistral Group of Companies’ policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Education
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
License, Registration and Training
- Valid and unrestricted Class “G” driver’s license with access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various work locations.
- Current WHMIS and First Aid/CPR certification and other relevant safety training.
Experience
- Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, or similar physical labour environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic understanding of workplace health and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials used in labour-related work.
- Knowledge of proper lifting and material handling techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Physically capable to lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
