Our client is a leading, employee-owned firm delivering integrated engineering, architecture, and planning solutions. With a global project footprint and multiple regional offices, they are currently seeking a motivated Certification Engineer for their Sudbury location

Reports to the Engineering Manager, the ideal candidate will possess strong background in electronics engineering and hands-on experience with certification processes. The role will be involved in design reviews and will apply their knowledge to the design process to facilitate first-time approval.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead certification efforts for new and existing products to meet applicable standards, including (but not limited to) ATEX, IECEx (IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-11), MSHA, IC, FCC.
· Prepare, review, and manage technical documentation required for regulatory submissions.
· Coordinate with external notified bodies, test laboratories, and regulatory agencies to complete certification activities.
· Conduct and support in-house pre-compliance testing using relevant test equipment.
· Perform EMC/EMI testing using spectrum analyzers, signal generators, or related equipment.
· Spark testing and ignition hazard testing for hazardous applications.
· Ensure compliance with relevant ISO standards, as required.
· Work with electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineering teams to guide designs toward compliance from concept through production.
· Identify certification or test-related risks early and propose mitigations or design improvements.
· Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
· Conduct research based on project parameters and design components according to project expectations.
· Provide feedback to design team on customer problems, needs and improvements.
· Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering
· 3+ years of experience in product certification, compliance engineering, or related roles
· Licensed Professional Engineers in Ontario is preferred.
· Experience with ATEX/IECEx and/or hazardous locations certification.
· Strong understanding of electronics design, EMC principles, and safety-critical product development.
· Hands-on experience with EMC test equipment, spark/ignition hazard test setups, and IP rating test equipment.
· Proficiency with Altium, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
· Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
