Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Generalist to join our dynamic finance team. The ideal candidate will assist in the development of budgets and monitoring all expenditures to ensure they align with the established budget. We are seeking an accounting professional highly skilled in budget maintenance who enjoys performing the wide range of administrative functions that support the organization's day-to-day operations. This position includes managing the daily accounting tasks for TTA, which involves entering data into the accounting system, reconciling cash transactions, conducting financial analysis, and recording daily transactions.
Duties
- All duties related to accounts payable.
- Collaborate with budget holders to establish budgets, monitoring variances, forecasts, and day-to-day accounting activities.
- Continually monitor expenses against approved budgets.
- Process payments and issue cheques, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintain financial tracking spreadsheets and filing systems.
- Perform daily accounting tasks, including processing accounts payable, reconciling bank transactions, and maintaining petty cash.
- Maintain the Chart of Accounts and oversee software updates.
- Provide administrative support by proofreading documents like presentations, reports, and Treaty related materials being readied for distribution and at times preparing correspondence.
- Order office supplies and maintain inventory.
- Coordinate travel, meetings, and reservations; schedule and confirm meetings.
- Ensure data is accurately backed up and that recovery procedures are followed and financial policies are reviewed regularly.
- Travel to various work locations on Vancouver Island, specifically within the five (5) member nation areas.
- Occasionally attend meetings which take place outside of business hours (e.g. weeknights).
- May oversee and train office staff on procedures and software use.
- In the absence of the Finance & Operations Manager, respond to employee concerns, consultant questions, coordinate payroll submission and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
Education and Qualifications
- Post-Secondary Diploma in Accounting.
- Five (5) years of working with budget proposals and budget maintenance.
- Five (5) years of progressive administrative experience.
- Five (5) years of progressive financial experience including full-cycle accounting.
- Three (3) years of project management experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Generalized Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with budgeting, payroll administration, and financial software (Sage 300).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of applicable statutory legislation and regulations.
- Basic understanding of the BC Treaty process.
- Respect for TTA Member Nations’ culture and protocols.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, written, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid class 5 B.C. driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Previous experience working with or in support of Indigenous communities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Previous supervisory experience is a requirement
Compensation
This is a full-time position (Monday to Friday), with a compensation rate of $26-$28 per hour. This position has health and dental benefits, free parking and free on-site coffee.
