Job Description:
The Manager will provide operational management and co-ordination of assigned clinical areas. The manager is also responsible for the implementation of operational and strategic objectives. The Manager will, together with the Director and the Divisional Head of Acute Mental Health Services, manage the functioning of services within the MH Program Acute Hospital Based Division. Working with the Medical Leads, Clinical Leads and Professional Practice Leads, this person will directly supervise and facilitate development of staff within assigned areas and oversee the establishment of a strong cohesive team. Working with the Director and the Leadership teams, this person will contribute to program planning and implementation, quality improvement initiatives and will promote an environment of creativity and innovation in the delivery of services.

Manage and supervise designated services within the Acute Hospital Based Division

Participating in the development and implementation of Program strategies

Participating in the development of Corporate Goals and Objectives and providing expert advice to the Executive Team.

Working in collaboration with staff and physicians in other Programs/Departments to ensure effective delivery of patient care/services

Managing human resources effectively which includes:
-
Hiring staff, scheduling staff, managing staff performance, managing attendance
-
Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations
-
Conduct performance appraisals and addressing performance related issues, facilitating and supporting professional practice improvement strategies, imposing discipline, recommending terminations

Ensuring staff have the required resources to carry out their functions

Manage within assigned budgets; monitor expenses; process payments

Respond to environmental issues to provide for a safe and healthy work environment

Liaise with external agencies to enhance regional relationships and projects with respect to mental health care

Collaborate with partnering service providers to promote and advance CHEO’s Corporate Goals and Objectives
-
Represent the Mental Health Program on various units, programs, and hospital committees as required.

Actively participate in Quality Improvement and Risk Management initiatives for the Mental Health Program

Guide adequate design, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of educational materials/activities for the MH Program
-
Follow up on Incident reports generated through the Safety Reporting System
-
Ensure the development and ongoing updating of MH Program manuals/procedures/policies. Ensure that all revisions and additions are communicated to policyholders.

Work in collaboration with the Director of Mental Health to provide support and guidance to teams within the MH Program

Ensure that staff have adequate training to provide quality service to patients and families in the MH Program

Collaborate with the Staffing Office to ensure adequate coverage of staff to provide quality service to patients and families in the MH Program

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Mental Health

Criminal Record Check (CRC) (Essential)

Baccalaureate Degree in nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Health or Social Sciences (Essential)

Master’s degree in health management or administration (Preferred)
-
Minimum of three (3) years of related management experience, preferably in a Mental Health program (Preferred)

Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation (Essential)

Project Management Experience (Preferred)

Strong data analysis skills (Essential)

Use software relevant to the position i.e. Word, SCM, and other hospital-based computer applications (Essential)

Communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing (Essential)

Deal effectively with internal and external customers (Essential)

Demonstrated expertise in a leadership role (Essential)

This position requires travel to offsite locations. A driver’s license and car are required (Essential)

Experience/knowledge in the implementation of quality improvement frameworks and/or initiatives (Essential)

Bilingualism (French/English) (Preferred)
