LEAD MITIGATION TECHNICIAN
At First General Fort McMurray, we provide emergency mitigation services for damage caused by water, sewer back-ups, fire, smoke damage, wind damage, vehicle impacts, catastrophic storm response, bio/trauma clean-up, asbestos remediation, and full construction services.
We are in search of a skilled Lead Mitigation Technician to join our dynamic team. This role plays a crucial role in safeguarding our clients’ properties and mitigating risks related to environmental hazards. Their expertise and attention to detail will be instrumental in maintaining the safety and well-being of our clients and their communities. The Lead Mitigation Technician on the Mitigation team is responsible for overseeing and conducting various environmental mitigation projects. These projects may include but are not limited to asbestos removal, mould remediation, lead abatement, and hazardous material cleanup utilizing specialized equipment and following strict safety protocols to ensure the successful completion of each project. This position reports to the Field & Logistics Manager, Production Manager, and the respective Project Manager.
The Lead Mitigation Technician assists in the fast response to emergency property damage claims and other restoration-related activities within Fort McMurrayn and surrounding areas. This position works closely and reports to the Mitigation Managers. This Lead Mitigation Technician must be highly skilled, and organized, have worked in the restoration field or related industry and be capable of managing a portfolio of minor and major projects simultaneously where property insurance claims require prompt, competent attention. Excellent people skills, ability to multi-task, attention to detail and ability to learn new technology are some of the qualities the successful candidate must possess. This Technician must be organized and driven to complete projects to help clients return to their home.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate staff, equipment, supplies, and vehicles for emergency claims response.
- Respond to after-hour emergency claims on a rotational basis.
- Train new staff in administrative duties (e.g., timesheets, forms) and safe work practices.
- Conduct toolbox meetings and participate in weekly mitigation training.
- Supervise and support site support and temporary staff on job sites.
- Review and execute tasks as outlined by Project Managers and Content Managers.
- Work alongside the Site Supervisor and Project Manager to fulfill job scope requirements.
- Follow direction from Site Lead/Supervisor; communicate concerns and updates to PMs and clients.
- Display empathy to customers and redirect questions to the appropriate contact.
- Perform and delegate emergency tasks including packing, content moving, tear-outs, removals, demolition, equipment setup, and cleaning.
- Set up and shift restoration equipment as needed.
- Collect material samples and document site contents using Encircle and other digital platforms.
- Perform and monitor psychometrics in accordance with IICRC standards.
- Lead a crew of technicians on mitigation job sites, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and to standard
- Conduct initial site assessments and scope mitigation work in coordination with the Project Manager
- Set up, monitor, and adjust drying and environmental control equipment (dehumidifiers, air movers, HEPA systems, etc.)
- Perform and supervise water extraction, demolition, mold remediation, and odor control work
- Ensure thorough documentation including moisture readings, job notes, equipment logs, and photographic evidence
- Train and mentor junior technicians in proper mitigation procedures and safety practices
- Communicate directly with clients to explain the scope of work and provide updates
- Maintain a clean, organized job site and ensure compliance with IICRC and company protocols
- Monitor project timelines and escalate issues or deviations to the Project Manager
- Ensure safety compliance and proper use of PPE for all crew members on site
- Operate power washers and water extraction equipment when required.
- Secure job sites and ensure proper maintenance of equipment, tools, and PPE.
- Participate in vehicle inspections and maintain a clean driver's abstract.
- Ensure accurate completion of all required paperwork (e.g., reports, hazard assessments, near-miss cards).
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and demonstrate commitment to the health and safety program.
- Utilize various software tools for documentation, timekeeping, photo documentation, and job reporting.
- Handle and document contents for packing, storage, and transport.
- Provide site protection and hoarding setup as required.
- Perform construction cleaning duties.

Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Proven 2-years experience in the restoration industry (emergency, remediation, insurance, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks as required
- Class 5 Drivers License with clean Driver’s Abstract
- Criminal Record Check clearance
- CSTS & WHMIS certification
- IICRC Water and Fire Restoration certification
- Other IICRC certifications considered an asset (FSRT, OCT, Asbestos)
- Willing to travel between sites in the Edmonton and surrounding areas
- Standard First Aid considered an asset
- Experience with demolition or construction is an asset

- Strong knowledge in water and fire restoration, IICRC standards and restoration industry practices
- Ability to perform moisture mapping and moisture readings in digital software
- Clear understanding of restoration psychrometric chart and drying efficiencies
- Thorough knowledge on how to deploy and set up drying equipment safely and effectively
Work Type: Full Time, Field
Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
Afterhours on-call rotation every 5 to 6 weeks for one week, 24/7
Salary: Starting $25 to $30 based on experience and qualifications
Vacation: 6% weeks paid out on every paycheque
