Webequie First Nation is a remote fly-in community in Northern Ontario, approximately 540 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, located within the mineral-rich Ring of Fire region.
As major economic development opportunities continue to emerge across the region, Webequie First Nation is advancing long-term economic self-determination through the establishment of the Webequie WMLP Limited Partnership (WMLP), an independent, wholly owned, for-profit investment and business development entity.
Job Summary
WMLP is seeking a highly capable, entrepreneurial, and self-directed Finance Manager to play a foundational role in the development and growth of the organization’s financial and operational infrastructure.

Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team to establish the financial controls, reporting structures, administrative systems, and operational processes necessary to support a growing and dynamic organization.
Duties
- Support the CEO in the development and implementation of an effective financial management system for WMLP core operations and its various subsidiaries
- Develop annual budgets and forecasts, monitoring variances to ensure alignment with WMLP’s goals.
- Monitor and optimize cash flow, working capital, and financial risk.
- Support the CEO and/or designate to complete and oversee financial transactions between WMLP and a variety of contractors/vendors.
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements for WMLP operations.
- Identify financial risks and develop strategies to minimize them.
- Assist WMLP in securing an auditor and coordinate annual WMLP processes, with auditors, to complete audited financial statements for WMLP and its subsidiaries.
- Provide support to the CEO and other staff/consultants to ensure financial projections and reporting comply with sector expectations and standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to support the advancement of interests and projects as defined by Webequie First Nation.
- Develop and manage payroll processes, employee files, required source deduction remittances, and government reporting.
- Oversee and coordinate operational employees’ recruitment, on-boarding and separation, salary grids, benefits, management of leave credits, and evaluation to contribute to the overall satisfaction of employees and to sustain relatively low turn-over rates.
- Ensure that all financial and employee policies, procedures, and activities of WMLP are in full compliance with all Provincial and Federal laws and regulations.
- Other duties as required.
Skills
- CPA designation preferred, and/or bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, accounting, business administration, or a related discipline, an accounting designation, or more than 10-years of experience specific to the areas of qualification preferred.
- Proven experience managing organizational policy, accounting, budgeting, auditing, financial planning, payroll, and related tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with First Nations communities, partners, government agencies and other stakeholders.
- Excellent communications skills, and demonstrated ability in sharing information, and maintaining open and inclusive communication with co-workers and a Board of Directors.
- Demonstrated interest and ability to mentor and build capacity within First Nation community members.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrated accountability in a senior management position.
- Ability and willingness to travel to Webequie First Nations in Northern Ontario.
- Understanding of the issues and opportunities facing remote First Nations communities in Northern Ontario, particularly those associated with consultation, economic development, land use planning and mineral development.
- Familiarity with federal and provincial government policies and programs related to First Nation’s governments and organizations; and,
- Previous experience working with First Nation’s organizations, and a knowledge and appreciation of the culture, values and political objectives Webequie First Nation would be a definite asset.
As WMLP is currently in the early stages of operational development, this role requires a high degree of initiative, accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to move work forward independently with minimal direction. The successful candidate must be comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on operational execution in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
Remuneration: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications
Primary Place of Work: Remote, with periodic travel to Thunder Bay, ON and Webequie First Nation as operational needs require.
Pay: From $100,000.00 per year
