POSITION SUMMARY
The Veterinary Technician (VT/RVT) is a regulated healthcare professional whose practice in Ontario is governed under the Veterinary Professionals Act, 2024. As a founding VT/RVT at Q1, you will function as the primary clinical partner to the attending veterinarian, delivering skilled patient care, diagnostics, client education, and team mentorship. The extended-hours model means you will regularly serve as the senior clinical presence during evening shifts, and strong independent judgment is essential. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support veterinarians with examinations, treatments, surgical procedures and other procedures
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian
- Monitor anesthesia and patient vitals
- Collect and prepare laboratory samples (blood, urine, fecal) and perform diagnostic testing as required
- Take and process diagnostic radiographs and assist with imaging procedures
- Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including monitoring recovery and patient comfort
- Educate clients on treatment plans, medications, preventative care, and post-procedure instruction
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in the hospital management system
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, treatment areas, and surgical suites
- Ensure equipment and instruments are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained
- Collaborate with veterinarians and hospital team members to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care
- Provide mentorship or guidance to veterinary assistants and students

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Registration
- Diploma in Veterinary Technology from an OAVT-accredited Ontario institution, or relevant experience.
- VTs /RVTs registered in other Canadian provinces are eligible via the As of Right pathway (effective January 1, 2026).
Experience
- Minimum two year of clinical veterinary experience preferred.
- Small animal anaesthesia monitoring and dental prophylaxis experience is a significant asset.
Preferred Skills
- Proficiency in IV catheter placement and fluid therapy.
- Experience with in-house laboratory equipment and point-of-care analyzers.
- Familiarity with veterinary practice management software (Neo PIMS experience is an asset).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to educate clients clearly and compassionately.
- Good interpersonal skills
