Job Summary
The Digital Navigator and Employment Consultant supports recent immigrants in achieving their employment goals by providing individualized employment counselling, assessments, and pre-employment workshops. Reporting to the Associate Manager, Employment Services, this role helps clients develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to secure meaningful employment. Working in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment, the incumbent delivers client-centered services, utilizes digital tools and resources, and collaborates with colleagues to address diverse employment needs and support successful workforce integration.
Duties and Responsibilities
Employment Consultant
· Deliver the JSW curriculum components, which include assessment and occupational blueprint; and Job Search Workshops modules in a computerized format
· Assist Clients with resume and cover letters, cold calling, interview skills, and action plan development and related activities
· Provide individual counselling support to Clients in person, phone, email or virtually as needed while providing suitable referrals to internal and external program/services
· Provide appropriate referrals for job search coaching, mentoring, coaching, work experience placement and paid employment
· Identify and access additional resources, such as internal and external guest speakers, resource materials, articles and program support information relevant to the JSW program
· Maintain statistics on client/service activities
· Assist with updating and closing Client files by performing regular follow up and updating files to enter information into the CRM system
· Assist in the evaluation of the program’s effectiveness and present solutions to enhance services on an ongoing basis and as part of the larger agency services system
Digital Navigation
· Offer individualized and or group in-person/virtual support sessions to clients in using online tools and technologies, such as App Usage, Microsoft Teams and software troubleshooting
· Provide client-centred, task-based, communicative programming
· Conduct sessions in a respectful, culturally sensitive and engaging manner based on participants' needs and foster self-directed learning
· Coordinate, conduct, and lead onsite digital orientations and drop-in sessions for clients in addition to 1:1 coaching, assistance and encouragement to clients on digital questions
· Develop and maintain an anti-bias-sensitive atmosphere where participants feel welcome and interested in learning
· Incorporate a variety of learning materials into lesson plans to meet different learning styles
· Support clients through digital learning, track results and collect feedback
· Maintain records of student attendance, prepare program reports, evaluation and tracking
· Use virtual platforms such as MS Teams when conducting online sessions
· Provide referrals and conduct outreach activities and liaise with community agencies and organizations
- Ensure all client interactions are promptly recorded in relevant databases following established guidelines
Qualifications Required
· Completion of post-secondary education in a related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
· Minimum 2 (two) years of teaching/coaching experience in a multicultural environment with adults of adult immigrants and refugees
· Superior communication and interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels in a professional, positive manner and to build trusting relationships and be a team player
· Outstanding customer service orientation, with the ability to diffuse tense situations
· Familiarity with local labour market, community resources, government programs, job search activities/techniques, career development and issues related to unemployment
· Experience in conducting and interpreting client needs assessments, coaching, and mentoring Clients;
· Demonstrated ability to develop goals and action plans with participants
· Creative and innovative facilitator to incorporate various learning styles
· Flexible, Reliable, self-motivated and self-reliant and ability to work effectively in a team environment
· Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks
· Knowledge and competence with office procedures and operations of office equipment
· Solid understanding of confidentiality, professional codes of conduct and diplomacy
· Sound digital literacy, able to use Google Classroom, Zoom, Avenue, etc., social media and Microsoft Office Suite, the Internet and online job search tools; the ability to provide technical troubleshooting is an asset.
