Blackcreek Forming is looking for an experienced Concrete Formwork Carpenter / Crew Lead to join our team. The successful candidate must have strong experience in commercial concrete forming and be able to lead a crew while working under the direction of the site foreman and layout personnel.
The candidate must be able to read drawings, follow elevations and layout points, organize workers, and complete formwork safely, accurately, and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise a concrete formwork crew on site.
- Follow instructions provided by the foreman, superintendent, and layout technician.
- Build, install, align, brace, and strip concrete formwork.
- Complete formwork for footings, foundation walls, grade beams, pile caps, columns, suspended slabs, ramps, and other concrete structures.
- Read and understand structural drawings, formwork drawings, elevations, and layout information.
- Check dimensions, elevations, wall thicknesses, openings, blockouts, embeds, and anchor bolt locations.
- Ensure forms are properly aligned, levelled, plumbed, braced, and ready for concrete placement.
- Coordinate daily work activities and assign tasks to crew members.
- Monitor productivity, workmanship, and safety compliance.
- Assist with concrete pours and ensure formwork remains secure during placement.
- Maintain tools, equipment, form panels, and materials.
- Report site issues, material shortages, drawing conflicts, and safety concerns to the foreman.
- Keep the work area organized and clean.
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of concrete formwork carpentry experience.
- Previous experience leading or supervising a formwork crew.
- Strong experience with commercial, institutional, or industrial concrete projects.
- Experience using formwork systems such as:
- Advance Forms
- Duraform
- Gang form systems
- PERI
- Doka
- Aluma
- Conventional plywood formwork
- Ability to read structural drawings and follow layout information.
- Experience working with total-station layout personnel is an asset.
- Knowledge of concrete forming methods, bracing requirements, ties, walers, strongbacks, and gang-form systems.
- Ability to safely use power tools, hand tools, saws, drills, levels, and measuring equipment.
- Ability to organize workers and maintain production targets.
Requirements
- Valid Working at Heights certification.
- Valid WHMIS and Ontario construction safety training.
- Reliable transportation to different construction sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in different weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting materials and performing construction work.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Must be reliable, punctual, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a team.
- Telehandler, aerial-lift, or forklift certification is an asset.
Preferred Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on carpenter who can lead by example, communicate clearly with the foreman and layout team, identify problems before concrete placement, and keep the crew productive throughout the project.
Compensation
Competitive hourly rate based on experience, leadership ability, and knowledge of commercial formwork systems.
Pay: $35.00-$50.00 per hour
