Your Opportunity:
The Health Care Aide functions as a member of the multidisciplinary team by providing safe, patient focused health care services for patients on Family Medicine Units at the Leduc Community Hospital. The incumbent participates in the delivery of quality care by performing services necessary for the physical, emotional well-being and comfort of the patient. The Health Care Aide will be able to work up to full scope of practice. Duties include but are not limited to assisting patients with activities of daily living, personal care, heavy lifting and transferring and assisting with health care tasks/procedures as necessary.
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be able to read and write fluently in English and possess basic computer skills. They should demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities, along with a positive and caring approach in all interactions. The role requires the ability to meet both the physical and emotional demands of the job, as duties may involve extended periods of standing, walking, and bending, as well as lifting, pushing, and pulling, with occasional heavy physical effort. Additionally, the position may include portering responsibilities as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in caring for patients with dementia is considered an asset, while experience working with acute care patients is preferred. Familiarity with CoACT, Care Hubs, and the Connect Care system is also beneficial, as it supports effective coordination of care and enhances overall job performance.
