What You’ll Do
As a tow truck operator, your responsibilities will include:
- Safely loading, transporting, and unloading vehicles
- Properly securing vehicles and other loads using straps, chains, and related equipment
- Winching and recovering vehicles from ditches, snow, mud, and other difficult situations
- Responding to breakdowns, collisions, and roadside service calls
- Operating towing and recovery equipment safely and responsibly
- Completing basic inspections of the tow truck and equipment
- Accurately completing required paperwork and service documentation
- Communicating professionally and courteously with customers, emergency personnel, and other members of the public
- Working outdoors in varying weather and road conditions
Position Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (non-GDL)
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Willingness to work scheduled day and night shifts
- Air Brake (Q) Endorsement is an asset but not required
- General mechanical knowledge would be beneficial
- No previous towing experience is necessary—we will provide training
Day-shift operators must remain available at the County Towing office during regular office hours when not responding to calls. Night-shift operators may remain at the office or be on call from a residence located within a 15-minute drive of Westlock.
The first three months of employment will be considered a probationary period. An in-house operator evaluation will be completed at the end of probation and every three months thereafter. Following a successful evaluation, the possibility of a guaranteed compensation arrangement may be discussed.
