WELCOME PROGRAM COORDINATOR
POSITION; Contract
HOURS OF WORK: 20 hours per week, with a flexible work schedule. Contract concludes March 31, 2027, with possibility to extend.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Welcome Program Coordinator is a contract position responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating a community welcome program that supports the attraction, retention, and successful integration of newcomers to Williams Lake and the surrounding area.
Working closely with employers, local businesses, community organizations, service providers, educational institutions, and government agencies, the coordinator will create opportunities and resources that foster a welcoming, inclusive, and connected community. At the end of the term, the contractor will have developed a program template in coordination with the Williams Lake Chamber of Commerce to create a self-funded program that will sustain itself on a small amount of committed annual funding.
The Welcome Program Coordinator will serve as a primary contact for newcomers, helping them access community resources, build social and professional connections, and navigate local services. The Coordinator will enjoy a flexible work schedule that may include evening and weekend work to accommodate events and newcomer activities.
SUPERVISION:
The incumbent is responsible to the Manager of Economic Development under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Williams Lake.
The incumbent will be expected to work independently and collaboratively with community stakeholders and partners and is required to have their own reliable transportation.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive community welcome program.
- Coordinate welcome events, orientations, and networking opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for newcomers.
- Create and maintain welcome materials and resource guides.
- Maintain accurate program records and reporting.
- Provide presentations and promote program participation.
- Liaise and build strong relationships with employers, local businesses, community organizations, service providers, educational institutions and government agencies.
- Perform other related tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum two (2) year Diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of community engagement, program coordination, or related experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, presentation, facilitation and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs.
- Ability to work independently on own initiative.
- Ability to act as a representative of the City of Williams Lake, demonstrating a high degree of professionalism, ability to build goodwill, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
- Criminal Record Check required.
The rate of pay will be $35.00 per hour commensurate with experience and education.
