OVERVIEW
Our client, one of Canada's leading equipment rental providers supporting customers across construction, infrastructure, industrial, mining, utilities, and commercial sectors through a network of branches spanning the country are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Technician to join their team. The Timmins branch plays a key role in supporting Northern Ontario's mining, construction, and industrial sectors and continues to be recognized as a top-performing operation within the organization.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Heavy Equipment Technician will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a diverse fleet of rental equipment while ensuring equipment reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction. This position offers a combination of shop and field work, allowing technicians to develop their skills across a wide range of equipment and applications while working within a collaborative and safety-focused environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Inspect, service, maintain, and repair a diverse fleet of rental equipment including earth-moving equipment, compaction equipment, aerial lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, boom lifts, and scissor lifts.
· Perform preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
· Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related equipment issues and complete repairs efficiently and accurately.
· Conduct equipment inspections and testing to verify repairs and ensure equipment is operating safely and effectively.
· Complete detailed service reports, maintenance records, inspections, and work orders in a thorough and timely manner.
· Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, and related mechanical components.
· Support equipment preparation, pre-delivery inspections (PDI), and fleet readiness activities.
· Provide field service support when required to assist customers and respond to equipment breakdowns.
· Participate in the branch's on-call rotation to support after-hours service requirements.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all company health and safety policies and procedures.
· Work collaboratively with service, operations, and rental teams to ensure exceptional customer service and equipment availability.
· Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum 3 years of mechanical experience working on construction, heavy equipment, industrial, agricultural, mining, rental, or related equipment.
· Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pumps, motors, and mechanical components.
· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
· Experience working on aerial equipment, earth-moving equipment, compaction equipment, forklifts, telehandlers, or similar equipment considered a strong asset.
· Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with customers and coworkers.
· Valid Class G Driver's Licence with a satisfactory driver's abstract (maximum three demerit points).
· Must possess a complete set of tools or be actively working toward building a complete tool inventory.
· Comfortable participating in an on-call rotation and occasional overtime requirements.
· Red Seal Heavy Equipment Technician, Truck & Coach Technician considered an asset but not required.
