Our client in Burlington is seeking a Mechanical Technician for New Installations & Service Repair.The Mechanical Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, repairing, inspecting, and testing trailer tarp systems and related mechanical assemblies. This is a hands-on shop and field-support role for a person who can
work safely around trailers, frames, tarps, rolling systems, fasteners, locks, tensioning mechanisms, hydraulic/electric
components, and customer equipment.
The technician must be able to read work instructions, follow build standards, complete quality checks, record labour and
repair notes accurately, and communicate concerns before defects or delays reach the customer.
Shift: 7:30 am – 4:00 pm M-F with overtime and additional weekend work
Pay: $25-30/hr
Main Purpose of the Job
Install new trailer tarp systems and related mechanical components correctly the first time.
Repair, adjust, and service existing tarp systems, rolling structures, locks, tracks, rollers, bows, tarps, panels, and
hardware.
Diagnose mechanical fit, alignment, tensioning, wear, damage, missing parts, and customer-use issues.
Complete safe, clean, and professional work that protects customer trailers and LCS workmanship standards.
Support production, service, parts, shipping, and customer service teams with accurate repair notes and completion
updates.
Key Responsibilities
New Installation Work
Install complete trailer tarp systems, rolling tarp frames, bows, tracks, bulkheads, rear closures, tensioning hardware,
locks, rollers, tarp panels, and related components according to LCS standards.
Measure, mark, drill, fasten, align, adjust, and test mechanical components on customer trailers and new trailer builds.
Confirm required parts, hardware, drawings, work orders, and instructions before starting each job.
Verify fit, movement, clearances, travel, locking points, tarp tension, and final system operation before sign-off.
Protect customer property from scratches, metal shavings, debris, overspray, sealant mess, and unnecessary handling
damage.
Service Repair Work
Inspect incoming trailers and tarp systems to identify damage, wear, missing components, poor alignment, failed
fasteners, tarp tears, track/roller issues, lock issues, hydraulic or electrical concerns, and safety concerns.
Perform tarp repairs, tarp replacements, panel replacements, structure repairs, frame repairs, lock repairs, roller/track
repairs, sealant repairs, and hardware replacement as assigned.
Troubleshoot systems that are difficult to open, close, lock, tension, roll, lift, or operate safely.
Document recommended repairs, additional parts needed, cause of failure when obvious, and any safety concern that
should be communicated to the customer.
Complete final operational testing before the trailer leaves the bay.
Quality, Safety, and Documentation
Follow all shop safety procedures, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout where applicable, trailer support practices,
ladder/platform safety, and safe tool use.
Complete inspection checklists and sign-offs honestly and accurately.
Enter or provide accurate labour time, repair notes, parts used, photos if required, and job status updates.
Report defects, missing parts, unclear work instructions, unsafe conditions, and workmanship concerns immediately.
Maintain a clean work area and leave customer equipment in professional condition.
Teamwork and Communication
Coordinate with the Service Manager, Production Manager, Parts, Shipping/Receiving, Engineering, Tarp Shop, and
Graphics teams when jobs require cross-department support.
Communicate delays early instead of waiting until the end of the job.
Ask questions when work instructions are unclear and confirm expectations before making changes to a customer trailer.
Help train junior technicians when requested and model safe, professional work habits
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
