Job Overview
The Hazmat Facility Technician is responsible for the safe handling, processing, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with applicable Saskatchewan environmental and safety regulations. This role supports facility operations by ensuring environmental protection standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, identify, and label hazardous waste material with the direction of a team lead
- Conduct waste stream sampling and categorizing as necessary
- Safely operate and maintain equipment used for waste processing and containment (forklift, skids deer, excavator, power tools etc.)
- Ensure proper storage and segregation of hazardous materials
- Conduct routine inspections of facility areas and safety equipment
- Maintain accurate records, manifests, and compliance documentation
- Follow all applicable provincial, federal, and company protocols to maintain safety and environmental regulations
- Assist with spill response and emergency procedures as needed
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors for waste transport and disposal
- Support audits and regulatory inspections
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary education or technical certification is an asset)
- 1–3 years of experience in hazardous materials handling, environmental/industrial services, or related fields
- Knowledge of Saskatchewan hazardous materials regulations
- Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures
- Strong attention to detail and collaborative teamworking skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in physically strenuous environments
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and reporting
Preferred Qualifications:
- HAZWOPER or equivalent Canadian certification
- 1+ years of light and heavy equipment operation experience (skid steers, excavators etc.)
- Experience in waste profiling or lab packing
- Experience working with heavy construction or industrial services will be an asset
- Familiarity with environmental compliance systems
Work Environment:
- Industrial facility setting with exposure to hazardous materials
- Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times
- May include outdoor/travel/field work with the varying weather conditions
Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
