About the Role
Stromsten Transportation Group Ltd. is hiring an experienced field mechanic for an immediate project-based role supporting the Newmont / Brucejack BJAR Limestone Transport project in northwest British Columbia.
This is a unique field position suited for someone who is mechanically strong, comfortable working independently, holds a valid Class 1 driver’s licence, and has wheel loader operating experience.
The successful candidate will operate a 2021 Ford F-550 service truck and provide field maintenance, repair support, equipment readiness checks, and operational support for a remote trucking and material handling project.
This is not a shop-only role. We need someone practical, reliable, safety-minded, and comfortable working in the field around trucks, trailers, loaders, and remote project operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the company service truck and provide field maintenance support.
- Complete minor repairs, troubleshooting, inspections, and defect follow-up on trucks and trailers.
- Support daily equipment readiness for dump trucks, Super B trailers, tridem pup trailers, and support equipment.
- Assist with parts control, spare parts, fluids, tires, lights, hoses, fittings, and field repair supplies.
- Operate a wheel loader as required at the project reload / staging area.
- Provide Class 1 driving support or relief driving when required.
- Support pre-trip, post-trip, defect reporting, and return-to-service coordination.
- Communicate repair needs, equipment status, and urgent issues to the project superintendent and dispatch.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe service truck.
- Follow all Stromsten, Newmont, and project safety requirements.
- Participate in daily tailgate meetings, FLHAs, and site safety processes.
- Support safe project execution in a remote, schedule-sensitive environment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class 1 driver’s licence.
- Strong heavy truck and trailer mechanical experience.
- Experience working on highway tractors, dump trucks, trailers, air systems, brakes, lights, tires, hydraulic systems, and general field repairs.
- Wheel loader operating experience.
- Ability to work independently in a remote project environment.
- Ability to work 10–12 hour days, 6–7 days per week.
- Strong safety mindset and good communication skills.
- Ability to document defects, repairs, parts used, and equipment status.
- Valid driver’s abstract acceptable to company and client requirements.
- Willingness to complete required onboarding, orientation, drug and alcohol testing, and site access requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification, Truck and Transport Mechanic certification, or strong equivalent field experience.
- Mining, civil construction, forestry road, remote trucking, or resource road experience.
- Experience operating a service truck.
- Experience supporting dump truck, end dump, side dump, or aggregate hauling operations.
- Experience working with safety-sensitive site requirements.
- Experience with Newmont, Brucejack, Avetta, or similar contractor onboarding systems is an asset.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive project-based compensation, based on experience.
- $265 per day LOA.
- Immediate start.
- High-hour project work available through approximately September 5, 2026.
- Opportunity to support a major mining logistics project with a growing transportation company.
Important Role Fit
This is a blended role and may not suit someone looking for only shop work or only driving work. The right person will be comfortable wearing multiple hats: field mechanic, service truck operator, Class 1 relief driver, loader operator, and practical project support.
We are looking for someone dependable, mechanically capable, calm under pressure, and able to help keep equipment moving in a remote project environment.
