The Pre-Placement Supervisor ensures that the community projects site locations are secured on monthly basis. Responsible for the supervision, direction & co-ordination of the youth crew on the community project site. Ensures that all work is carried out within the context of the agency’s Mission Statement, Board approved policies, and organizational practices, along with the Funder’s criteria.
This is a temporary contract to cover a medical leave.
Responsibilities:
- Markets TYJC Services to local Co-ops, Churches & Community Centres
- Researches and contacts potential sites for community projects during the Pre-Placement stage of the program. Potential worksites can be initiated through cold calls, telephone solicitation, emails mail outs, referrals and any other methods deemed appropriate
- Meets & finalizes contracts with appropriate persons
- Documents expectations of work to be completed & supplies needed within the 6 week period
- Builds strong relationships & long term partnerships by adhering to the details of the contract, by being accurate with time frames and equipment
- Completes a Pre-Placement Evaluation for each client
- Trains, directs & supervises youth on the community projects sites
- Maintains control of all expenses and inventory associated with the community project site location
- Ensures the safety of employees and participants
- Provides WHIMIS and Health & Safety Training for the participants
- Ensures that all government regulations, standards, restrictions and requirements are met with potential employers (Workplace’s Compensation, Employment Standards Act, Work Place Safety- WHMIS, Bill 168 –Confidentiality etc )
- Ensures all incidents involving staff, volunteers, and/or participants are immediately reported and/or documented according to legislative and agency requirements
- Assists clients as deemed necessary with their Job Search process
- Maintain up-to-date First Aid/CPR Certificate
- Attends weekly staff meetings and rotates Chairperson & Secretarial role as required
- Assists with program specific special events (Graduation, Employer Recognition Nights & Youth Christmas Parties) and fundraising initiatives
- Attends Volunteer Recognition Night, Annual General Meeting and participates in UW Campaign
- Participates in and supports agency-wide special events and fundraising initiatives
- Participates in agency wide committee(s)
- Ensures an approach that displays a positive attitude, sensitivity and understanding towards people of all abilities, backgrounds and orientation
- Carries out other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises youth on the work site. Responsibilities include training youth; providing direction each day evaluating progress, disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems on a need be bases.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends as required.
Qualifications:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education: Degree/ Diploma in Social Services University / Trades/ College or Equivalent or equivalent
Experience: 3-5 years experience with hands on painting techniques, small renovations, wall repairs, small repairs etc. Experience working with youth & community partners/ agencies.
Skills:
- Knowledge of prep work, dry walling & painting
- Self direct individual , organized, motivated & results oriented
- Ability to motivate, supervise and direct a crew of youth
- Well developed marketing skills as job requires the individual to ability to approach Community Centres, Co-op Housing Complexes and / or Churches to secure paint site locations
- Knowledge of disciplinary techniques for youth
- Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Excellent written & oral communication skills
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. On occasion may have to step into the role of Job Developer. Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, paint fumes and outside weather conditions. Noise level could vary as one would be visiting paint sites & various employer establishments. Travel is required to various locations in the Scarborough area.
