Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Student - R&D Engineer Associate (Short-Term) to join our research and development team for 3-months with opportunity for extension and potentially a long-term career. This flexible R&D job opportunity provides an excellent opportunity for students pursuing degrees in engineering or related fields to gain hands-on experience in product development, system design, and manufacturing processes. The role involves supporting various engineering projects, collaborating with lead engineer/owner, and applying technical skills to real-world fluid mechanics including two-phase flow challenges in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, and testing of new products and prototypes using CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Fabricate and assemble prototypes
- Contribute to manufacturing process optimization through lean manufacturing principles
- Support research activities by conducting mathematical modeling and simulations to evaluate system performance
- Simulate fluid flow in prototypes on ANSYS
- 3D print components
- Create detailed schematics, technical drawings, and documentation for engineering projects
- Participate in system analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging activities to ensure product quality and functionality
- Collaborate with owner/senior engineer on product development initiatives
- Assist with maintenance activities related to equipment and systems used in R&D projects
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in manufacturing/machine shop environments is required
- Access to machine shop within a school environment or third-party machine shop
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for designing and assembling models
- Basic understanding of fluid mechanics
- CFD skills is a plus
- Strong math skills for modeling, analysis, and simulation purposes
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Effective communication skills for collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
- Access to personal computer
- Mostly remote work
