Machine Operator - Coffee Roaster
Role: Machine Operator (Full Time, Permanent)
Location: L5T 2K9, Mississauga (Greater Toronto Area), Ontario, Canada
Pirates of Coffee is looking for a motivated individual who will be responsible for roasting specialty‑grade green coffee in a timely, efficient, sanitary, and consistent manner. The role will also include machine maintenance, quality control, following machine operation procedures, and performing cleaning and general upkeep of the equipment as required.

ABOUT YOU

- You are able to carry 35 kg of green coffee unassisted. You are able to stand for the majority of the time while roasting coffee.
- You are comfortable with numbers for tracking inventory and orders, and for making frequent conversions between kilograms and pounds.
- You are comfortable maintaining detailed, traceable roast profiles and creating structure around batch traceability.
- You are comfortable with basic computer operations and are proficient in Excel and inventory management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- You have at least 3 years of experience independently operating a production machine and consistently producing results (ideally a coffee roaster).
- Bonus: You have experience using a commercial coffee roaster.
- Bonus: You hold an SCA certification such as SCA Roasting, Brewing, or Sensory.
- Bonus: You are a licensed Q-Grader (CQI).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Roast coffee:
- Sample roasting and production roasting working in tandem with our roasting team
- Inspect beans regularly according to specifications
- Feed product to hoppers, roast and cool beans, and unload into bins/packages
- Roast green coffee to various levels as required
Production and order fulfillment:
- Plan production to meet customer demand
- Work with our packing and fulfillment teams to ensure orders are prepared on time
Quality assurance and improvement:
- Monitor roasting process to identify needed adjustments or repairs
- Inspect for quality and accurate quantity at all times
- Identify opportunities for process improvement
- Perform quality control checks at regular intervals
- Regular cleaning and maintenance of roasting equipment

Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour

Experience:
- specialty coffee roasting: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Q-Grader (CQI) license (preferred)
- SCA certifications such as Roasting, Brewing, Sensory etc. (preferred)
