POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Manager or designate, a lifeguard performs lifeguarding
functions as well as minor maintenance.
KEY DUTIES PERFORMED:
1. Provides lifeguarding duties such as guarding, cleaning, administration and inspections.
2. Ensures that all necessary equipment is in good working order and ready for immediate or emergency
use.
3. Responsible for their uniform and contents of their own fanny pack.
4. Monitors and records pool conditions when necessary.
5. Maintains good housekeeping in all areas of the pool.
6. Prepares reports and makes logbook entries as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:
1. Current National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option).
2. Current Standard First Aid with CPR C/AED.
3. Compliance with and approval of a Criminal Record Search with Vulnerable Sector.
4. Physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort.
5. Demonstrated competency, including bi-annual testing.
6. Will be required to attend all scheduled lifeguarding in-services.
7. Work at least two shifts a month if offered by the employer, in accordance with the Collective
Agreement.
8. The ability to perform all the duties outlined in a safe manner following established Facility
Procedures, Occupational, Health & Safety Rules, and Violence in the Workplace policies and W.C.B.
Regulations (i.e. WHMIS).
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
1. Graduation from a recognized Aquatic and/or Recreation Management Program.
2. Other aquatic instructor courses as they relate to this position.
