About Thai United
Thai United Food Trading Limited is one of the largest ethnic food distribution companies in Canada. For decades, we've connected Canadian retailers with authentic products from around the world — and we're still growing. Behind our warehouses, trucks, and sales teams is a business built on tight margins, smart cash management, and strong relationships. That's where you come in.
About the Role
This is a senior finance leadership position with broad ownership of the company's financial operations and a direct voice with executive leadership. You won't be buried in layers of hierarchy producing reports nobody reads — you'll be a hands-on financial leader with real authority over how the company manages its money.
We're looking for an operational finance leader, not just an accountant. Someone who understands that in distribution, the numbers live in the warehouse, on the order desk, and in every supplier and customer negotiation — not just in the general ledger.
What You'll Own
Cash Flow & Banking
- Manage the company's cash position to best-in-industry standards — maximizing working capital, payment terms, and financial flexibility
- Own key banking relationships, including day-to-day management of the company's credit facilities
- Negotiate interest rates, credit terms, professional fees, and other financial costs on the company's behalf
- Lead external audits and reviews from start to finish, coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver clean, on-time results
Profitability & Pricing
- Partner with category managers and sales teams to track what's selling, what's profitable, and where margin is leaking
- Build pricing frameworks and guidelines — going beyond "raise the price" to give the business real analytical guidance on how to price products properly
- Support and advise the sales organization on customer price increases with data they can stand behind
- Manage the company's overall cost structure and champion profitability initiatives
Audit, Compliance & External Partners
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, banks, insurers, CRA, and CBSA
- Deliver flawless audits and regulatory filings — no penalties, no rework, no surprises
- Engage external consultants and legal counsel on complex financial matters such as duties, supplier contracts, and funding structures
- Maintain strong internal controls and finance policies across the business
Team Leadership (a big part of this job — 40% of it)
- Lead an established finance team covering payables, receivables, payroll, and financial analysis
- Ensure the team captures maximum value in supplier terms and deductions, collects on time, and manages customer programs and claims with precision
- Develop your people through coaching, clear expectations, and rigorous performance management
- Build one of the strongest finance functions in the industry — a group that's respected across the company and acts as a true business partner, not a back office
Who You Are
- CPA designation strongly preferred, with a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- 7–10 years of progressive finance experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role
- Industry experience is essential. You've worked inside a company that manages inventory — distribution, CPG, food, wholesale, or manufacturing.
- Hands-on experience managing banking relationships and credit facilities
- A proven track record leading external audits and coordinating cross-functional teams through them
- Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, taxation, and regulatory compliance (CRA, CBSA)
- Advanced ERP and reporting skills, with a bias for automation and efficiency
- A confident communicator who can influence everyone from analysts to bankers to executives — and who's comfortable challenging the business when the numbers say so
Why This Role Stands Out
- Real seat at the table. You'll work closely with senior leadership and have genuine influence over the direction of the business.
- Breadth you won't find at a big corporate. Banking, pricing, audits, supplier terms, cost structure, team leadership — all in one mandate.
- A growing company in a resilient industry. Ethnic food distribution in Canada is expanding, and we're one of the leaders.
